That’s an’86 xj700 airhead that would theoretically be bored out of the 999 is correct. It’s NOT a 900r engine on it. To bore a 700 out to 1000 is crazy.... the cyl wall would so thin, I’d think it would self destruct.

Could you even take that out close to 900...or even worse( better!) 999?

The 748 can surely only reliably be taken out to...853cc.....the first 900....anything more requires stroking too,??

I know someone on here found me a 'big bore' kit that was 'only' 818cc....nice, but nowhere near 898cc even !!

I thought about picking it up to flip, but now that I have a more realistic understanding of how much it cost vs resale- pass.
I'm already a grand over resale value on my current xj, thankfully
I'm pleased with the outcome. it's a keeper.

You got it right. In 87 here in Canada we got the TZR250. In 89 they offered the TDR which had a similar motor derived from the TZR with the dualsport suspenders.
In 91 I bought a new non-current 89 DT200R for $2,999.00. There was a TZR sitting next to it for about $3500. I was stupid at the time and couldn't understand why anyone would want a road bike that small. Likely worth a fortune today. At the same time the dealer had non-current DR BIG's, you never see them anymore.
I know of a guy who has 4 of those TDR's.

Watched a few vids of the bike mentioned just above, that would be too loud for me and too much like a angry bee noise for me to drive all day. I might be fun, but can't get passed that bee sound of the engine. I guess that is why I like the inline 4's or even the v4 engines. Just my 2 cents..

In the UK/Europe, 70's/80's we practically grew up on 2 strokes.......you can do serious miles if you keep the 2 stroke oil tank filled up ( or even older, shot of 2 stroke oil in the tank, every fill up!)...TDR250 was fairly popular in UK, but still quite a rare seller

MY RD350 used to regularly do bike rallies, in the late mid/late 70's, Manchester > London, and even further, thats 200+ miles of ring a ding ding and blue smoke everywhere !!!
My kettle, Suzuki GT750, 77' used to go even further, and I wish I still had that now !

Even louder when you put 'Spannies on them ( expansion chambers...often designed in the metalwork labs at school/college, and often reduced your useable power band to like 1500 Revs wide !!! ) There is a forgotten art of keeping a 2 stroke in its power band!!

Seeing what has happened to this little Seca hurts my heart. This is just plain sad.... I am fairly open minded about how folks modify and make motorcycles their own and their visions for them... but this fellow should have his tools taken away from him and his fingers super glued together! chop his frame and hard tail him. should have started his build with the carbs. he is selling it for the cost of a motor.

maybe he cant figure out how to put a seat on it and a fender. or was told it will not pass inspection.
