Another old guy with an old XJ650

    Still feeling good enough to ride a bike. Had to give up on long term sailing and now RVing. Bought a barn find 1981 XJ 650 that was rebuilt 12 years ago and has sat for a few years. Just working on the brake caliper and the master cylinder. May need a rebuild kit for it. as it is leaking from the rear of the actuating rod. If any one has a right side cover in good shape I am looking for one. Engine has great compression, but no spark. I am looking into the CDI and the safety interlocks today. Starter spins engine easily with plugs out. Thanks for letting me join. If anyone need a stock seat for an 81 XJ 650 let me know. Located on Merritt Island, FL.

    Spark problem? Verify your battery is good, multi-meter on it at rest and when cranking, let us know what the voltage readings are. Also it is a really good idea to go stem to stern with cleaning, die-electric greasing and tightening all electrical connections. The original fuse box is a known weak point. There is much to look at (as indicated in the Information Overload Hour) but as long as you are not sooo old that you are still buying green bananas you will find that taking the time to go through everything now will reward you with a safe and reliable ride.
