very cool stuff. I think the guy that got really close wasnt planning on it, unless he knows a fearlessness I will never understand. Anyway though, Im sure as fellow late model xj owners you were all thinking about climbing down and recovering those barely used skis in need of a little tlc :)

I know they are gliding but, I wonder if those suits have any lift.
I mean a hangglider you can get lift even if it's just a flare.
In the video it appeared that you could not pull up at all.
Once lost hieght could not be regained.
So misscalculate and meet the ground real quick.

If I was ever to even try and attempt someting like that 8O

I would do the old Evil Kinevil trick. Run, Jump, pull the rip cord ......... find the rip cord in a blind pannic......... pull pull pull pull for dear life and pull again.

Who am I kidding I needed to change my pants when I attepted absailing (the wife thought it funny as she had just done it for the first time and was waiting at the bottom for me  )

I'm sure if they hit one heck of a thermal or updraft they could get some lift. Probably not very likely since they have such a high glide ratio. My old Delta type hang glider had a 4to1 ratio (for every 4 feet you travel you drop 1 foot) and it was 21' ft long and 16' wide at the tail. their ratio must be like 4to6 8O I think if they encountered an updraft strong enough to 'lift' them they'd be looking for their helmet that got blown off their head... 8O

No, they have no lift. If they did they say they could land without a chute. I did read somewhere where someone in France is working on one that will have lift and land with it.

In the 70's there was a movie called the Gypsy Moths in which they used a suit similar to this and tried to land with it. Guess what? He died

I'm sure someone has paid the ultimate price while getting the suit to work just right and doing the research needed.
There is always the guy who actually tried this stunt for the very first time, and my hats off to him. Thinking outside the box so to speak is always scary and not actually knowing what's going to happen is a big gamble. I assume these guys parachute frequently so they have some kind of experience with aero dynamics, and taking calculated risks. Now that it's been done, I think I'll have to add it to my "bucket list"!

Y'know, anyone who works in a skyscraper should have a suit like that in their locker. Coulda saved some lives on 9-11.
Me, I get quite enough cliff action riding my maxim over the passes, thank you very much.
