Yeah, I was pretending to be dumb for the purposes of comedy. I figured Emma was just doing one of those "Custom Kitchen" type posts that are just advertising for non XJ businesses. If she shows up to defend herself I'll powdercoat the windows on my Subaru.

Think Phonenix would be a good way to describe Woodstock. The bird that arose from the ashes of a bunch of dickhead thieves with the help of Razz magic to make it happen!
Keep the faith you will get it back up on two wheels soon.

Sorry, been under the weather the last couple of days. Tuesday I managed to clean the forks up and put taller spring spacers in since I am doing away with the air assist. I installed the taper bearings in the head tube and mounted the triples and forks. Today I installed the wiring harness, head light bucket, and installed the gauges and hooked them up. But there seems to be a problem with ether with the installation of my headlight bucket or my gauges. Looks like my gauges are to low and the bucket is hitting the speedo input making the bucket tilt down. I will post photos tomorrow when it is light out. My next step is installing all the relays, battery box, air box and electric panel, hoping to finish up all the electrical minus turn signals (still have to order) and tail light ( due to having to paint the rear fender) my next day off is Monday, baring bad weather I will have an update then. Good night and may your dreams be filled with XJ'S, I know mine will.

Tell me what you think about the clearance, should I put spacers beneath the cluster?

When you feel up to it I'd revisit the installation. Hopefully another member will take a look at the pics and help out. Get well soon.

The cluster clearance to the ignition switch cover looks correct. The fork legs are too high in the clamps though. They should be flush with the top of the upper clamps. If that does not correct the clearnace issue then you may need to add washers.

Does the headlight mount look like it might have gotten bent? Probably not at the ears, but the subframe where it attaches to the forks.

EDIT. I did some more looking. The bracket for the cluster is bent. The cluster angle should be closer to vertical than it currently is, but then that would make it hit the ignition switch cover. Hmmm......

I'm not convinced that the bracket is bent bad enough to be the issue.....

I'm looking at the headlight bucket and wondering if it is the wrong one.... The 750 maxim rectangular headlight bucket is not the same as the 750 seca rectangular bucket. Could it possibly be that you have a Seca bucket there instead?

The Seca bucket has a lower snapped-on section that his bucket dosen't have. The Seca bucket also doesn't have the inset for the mounting ears.

Are the rubber dampers in place on the meter mounting studs? There should be (from the top of the stud) a washer, a rubber damper and collar, a washer (below the top tree), and a nut.

    I don't see these....
    image.jpg
The other thing that comes to mind is:
Did you put in ALL parts that belong on top of the steering stem before putting the crown on? If you missed a locking collar, or a spacer if the bearings aren't as tall, etc.... That would set the crown a bit lower, the bucket mount may still fit into its holes, but overall spacing would be reduced..... Just trying to think of scenarios-----

I dont have them so I made some. But as I see in your photo I need to make the rubber "washer" part of the damper thicker. Back to the drawing board and lathe. Thanks every one.

    Razz,
Looks like daylight through the front of the bracket (first pic). Did you relocate the original pins?

Fwiw: I use the yics tool to isolate the carbs for vacuum synching. I don't use it to colortune.

Limber fingers and a pair of pliers will allow the cable to be installed, with everything else in place (on the 750 Seca anyway).

The day after he stole my bike he beat some one to death with a hammer in his car, dump the body in the middle of the road and then ran him over. He was on the lam until they caught up with him in Tennessee. More updates on the bike plus we have a new scooter, fill ya in later on that after work tonight.

No it wouldn't. The 750 tach cable requires exactly zero-clearance for installation (because there isn't one). ;)
