You may want to try the Radian swingarm and some diffrent shocks.
The swing arm will bolt right on my shocks are about 13' giving it more clearance.

Is that a Radian front sprocket cover I see there?

    I have a spare Radian swingarm... Too bad I don't have a 550 anymore :(

Ya bum. I suspect the swingarm on my '83 is slightly tweaked, and I have a BRAND NEW NOS replacement ($9 off eBay) sitting here and now I probably won't use it.

Is the Radian swingarm radically stiffer or improved over the original round-section one?

Radian motor. I think the box design is stronger.

Now I wanna see what one looks like. Have you got a spare you can snap a pic of, from above say, so I can compare the design with the original?

Or from any view that would show how it's different from the stock one?

That's quite an increase in rear ride height-- I'm comparing swingarm angle to stock-- does it change the handling much, as it shortens the front numbers? (Less rake and trail...)

    Fitz, here you go.

    Sorry, it's filthy...

EDIT: it should be noted that the Radian and the XJ550 share the same frame.

..."he don't know me vewwy well, do he?"...

That being said, the jury is out. I don't like the "kink" in the inside wall of the tube where it bends; the original swing arm's round section tubing didn't kink with a bend that mild. And I'm not so sure that the cross-beam "box" is necessarily stronger than the stamped "web" welded across the original.

I'll shoot a couple pics of the stock one and we can compare.

What are the footpegs you're using off?

Not a model we saw a lot of here

The stock footpegs touch down very easily so I am looking for alternatives that go in the same spot

I have a pair of the same shocks I am going to try while I save for my spanky ones
