Nope. The only thing that matters is the little hole in the center, and to a lesser extent the cone leading to it.

In another thread you talked about "when it ran". Did you chew up the jets or was it running with them like that?

nope, jets were chewed up by PO

only damage I did was make one jet worse because I had to hammer a flat blade screw driver in to the jet just to make a slot to turn it with, to get the jet out.

But the bike did run enough to ride it home about 80 miles when I first bought it. This problem started the day after I got it home.

I think the main "Clue" in diagnosing my problem is: The bike fires with brand new plugs. Then soon after that (not one ride) it goes back to the same problem of no start. So.. Weak spark?? Plugs fouling somehow??

Check that the Enrichment Circuit Operating Rod isn't stuck holding the Enrichment Valves Open just a touch.

That will fowl Plugs in a big hurry!

How do I tell if a plug is fouled?

The bike will run rough because a Cylinder or two (maybe more) aren't firing regularly as they should.

Inspecting the Plugs shows the Plug to be black from soot or oil or wet from fuel or oil.

I had a similar problem and found that my air jets were reversed. The po had them rebuilt and the "rebuilder" put all 4 pilot and main air jets in wrong. Bike would run a while foul the plugs. I would clean or install new plugs and ride a while. I was looking for ignition problems such as weak fire....coils plug caps and so on!

I got lucky and looked at an extra rack of carbs I had and realized they were in wrong swapped them and now it runs it's as* off!

It is laid out wrong in one of the service manuals and I guess the rebuilder (butcher) didn't pay attention to their position when he disassembled them and used the info in the manual.
