Here they call it Blue Planet fuel. The stuff loaded with ethanol and is oxygenated. It attracts moisture like crazy.
I got the Allen head bowl screws from Chacal and with tee handle Allen wrench it takes less than a minute to drain my carbs.

you could just drain the gas and put a few gallons of kerosene in it

I was told that some stations sell ethanol-free, and yes, they are hard to find around here. But the question was: for short storage (6 months or so), how better could it be to fill the tank and carb bowls with ethanol-free gasoline, if available?

If it's available locally I would use it for storage along with some stabilizer, but I wouldn't go out of my way to get it. They do have fuel stabilizer that is supposed to counteract the effects of Ethanol, that's what I use along with starting the bike once a month or so.

From the horror stories out there it sounds like you could easily make your own:

    1. buy some E10
    2. let it set for two months (maybe longer if you're in a dry environment)
    3. siphon off the top 80% or so, which should be pure gasoline, while the bottom 10% should be the phase-separated ethanol/water mix

Well, well, it would be simpler to use kerosene as suggested by Polock.

around here the pump says UP TO 10%.
i think if you follow the money as the price of ethanol goes up, the % goes down. Someone at the refinery knows the real % but i doubt the guy at the gas station knows.
