If leaky exhaust was the issue, I wasn't planning on re-jetting to fix it. Just trying to understand the cause. I could tolerate riding around with an exhaust leak; I'd rather expend my energy on getting the mixture right first.

Have you looked on the Jets presently installed to see if they are the correct size?

Diaphragm Pistons failing to rise completely will contribute to a lean condition.
You should review the Post entitled "Clunk-test" for which there is a link in my signature.

Carbs were completely cleaned, jets verified, pistons clunking. Of course it wouldn't hurt to verify again, though, now that the bike has sat for a while.

Really was just wondering how sensitive the tuning was to a leaky exhaust. Thanks Rick.

Did you put the o ring on the mixture screw in the right spot? Not questioning your skills just putting it out there.

    razz1969 raises a good point.

If the Pilot Screws Spring, Flat and O-ring were placed back-in the Port all-together it's NOT uncommon for the O-ring and Flat to tumble-off and flip-flop.
