resistors are made to be changed on the oem plug cap.
aftermarket caps are built to be replaced when they go out of spec.
by going to zero ohm plug caps and using a resistor plug the resistor gets renewed every time you install new plugs.

if your tci is not getting any RFI issues by not using them you are set

the resistor lengthens the spark duration when firing

That isn't how resistors fail. They fail by increasing to infinite resistance ("burning out").

cars use resistor plugs, they're good for about 100,000 miles, so that's not a problem

I know it doen't sound logical but every plug below 3K delivered problems in the V65.. ranging from startingproblems to bangs in the exhaust. With new ones the bike performed perfect again.
Anyway.. no problem anymore since I sold the Magna's

So these coils should work with my XJ750RL?

Nope.. got an aftermarket dig. ignition now.
The resistorcaps make the engine run 'softer', perhaps smoother imo
Now it seems to run 'crispier'.

Keep your eyes on ebay for a triple Glod Wing pack from the GL1500 - they often go for around 25 bucks.

Prompted me to score another triple-pack of MT08 coils from the Gulp Whinge, a mere thirty bucks with leads and brackets.
I think I've got enough now to see me out. These things last so long and work so well I've never had the urge to buy higher output so-called sporty coils.

I just picked up and installed some cb750 coils on my midnight maxim. To my door 2 days early $27 for the pair. I was happy to be able to replace some cracked original coils and make new plug wires to go with my new ngk plug caps. Excited to get it tuned and see how it runs now

I picked up and installed MIC (made in You guessed it!) coils for a CB750 and installed them on my 750Maxim along with new NGK wires, caps, and plugs. Took it on a number of rides (approx 100miles) without issue so far. Was happy to get the new plug wires and caps going and just took the risk. So far so good. Install was easy, fit was the same as stock just upside down.

I have almost 700 miles on my Seca with no issues with these coils.

Not really. The CB750 coils have the coil mounting holes spaced too far apart to fit any of the XJ700 models (especially the air-cooled ones, which mount the coils just outside of the steering headpipe). Although you could probably do a LOT of custom bracketry mods to get them in place, you'll probably: a) throw them thru a window before you actually get them to fit, and : b) realize you can't use the chrome coil covers anymore, which makes the coils stick out like a sore thumb.

XJ700's (and other models that use "shorter" coils, such as FJ600 and FZ600 models) should stick with using the shorter coils, to save yourself a lot of headaches. But........the electrical specs are all the same, so if you do manage to get the "bigger/longer" XJ650/750/900/1100 coils somehow shoe-horned in place, you'll be okay "electrically" speaking.

Thinking about doing this mod to my 1981 XJ750.

Just curious about which wire goes to (+) and which to (-) on the CB coils.

    My current wires are
    - Left: red/white and orange
    - Right: red/white and grey

    Thanks!

    Red/White are positive both sides.

While it might be handy for future troubleshooting...
Doesn't really matter that much - on each double-ended coil, one plug will always be arse for elbow, which kind of makes a nonsense of polarity on the primary.
