I went to reassemble my clutch assembly and couldn't recall the order in which everything went.....

This thrust washer goes on the shaft sandwiched between this:

    And this:

    Correct?
The FSM isn't helping matters much here at all. Any pertinent information is appreciated.

Even the parts manual doesn’t show it.
Will only work one way. Looking at the shaft, spline doesn’t go all the way to the bottom so washer will do nothing. IMHO the washer has to go in after the the hub and last under the nut.

Do you remember removing a washer with locking tabs before you removed the basket nut?

Here is a video on a XJ600 diversion and it implies the "thrust washer" goes between the basket and the boss - see the 4 and 8 min marks. The parts diagram somewhat indicates this also with the placement of what they call the thrust washer (item 6), although the depiction of the part is no where close to the actual part. Note on the 83 item 6 is missing in the description, but is present on the 82.

The youtuber also implies up and down direction for the thrust washer is very important - I will leave that to the mechanical experts here.

Thank you all for jogging my memory. It all came rushing back to me in an instant with all this good information. My attempt to multitask on multiple bikes proved to get me confused and then some. Too many irons in the fire, kind of thing.
I'll take it down a notch.
