coil craps out?

    riding yesterday (quite warm out) and I suddenly find myself running on 2 cylinders. 1 and 4 are not firing at all. we sat there for a few minutes, I jiggled the key switch a few times, and it started right up, on all 4. Rode the 75 miles remaining without missing a beat!
    What do you folks think? Ignition switch or coil breaking down? I'll be in the market for whatever it takes....

    PS this happened last week on a short ride but it only lasted a few seconds so I thot one the carbs had sucked some crap thru....

    get out your multimeter and test the resistances on the 1-4 coil
