Have you tried adjusting the #2 carb mixture screw to see if it would make any difference? Turn it Cwise and then CCwise at idle and check the pipe temperature at the same time.

Unless that Mix/Pilot screw is all the way in = no vacuum to draw fuel, then it would still be getting #2 hot with proper float levels....unless it makes no difference because it's blocked.

wet checked the floats, all were between the shank of the bowl screw and the carb body... there are aftermarket float needles in there though...

blew teh idle passage out good last night with carb cleaner, idle screw out and finger over the hole... carb cleaner flew out of the pilot air jet... I'm pretty sure my bases are covered, i guess we'll see (again).

It's not battery related. It's lack of fuel. check for an air leak around the intake manifold for that cylinder. That's what caused my problem last year. The gasket was toast. Propane found the leak right away.

    Thanks Rick,

Did you replace it? I'd love to find some gasket paper, instead of ordering some new gaskets... I could just make a template and go from there... perhaps i'll stop by canadian tire on my way home.

I think the gaskets were $8 each. Available through the Yamaha dealer and $8.50 from an independent . I just checked to see if I have a spare I could send you but I must have used it when I put new boots on.

Cool, i checked the one cylinder and it seemed like it was actually a pretty new gasket. i gave it some sealant (gasket spray decanted and liberally applied to the gasket and head, and bolted it back up. Will check others as well while i'm in there...

On a related topic, is there a certain type of gasket material i should be using? I understand gas will eat certain materials in no time at all.

This sounds a bit familiar to me.... check and be sure your carb jets are in the right location....

    Hey guys,

Must have been a severely blocked idle passage...

I wound up swapping my jets into my old 650 carbs (and needles) and i can't believe I'm finally saying this: it's now purring like a kitten, no stumble off idle or anything, takes the gas well!!!! Will have to get that #2 carb ultrasonically cleaned at some point, but now i just have to get that damn bike certified and ride it!

Just about to go do a running sync with the father in law watching closely... I'm so nervous :D

    Marcel

PS: sold the remains of maxine this weekend as well... may she provide many parts!

Great news! Now I won't have to be checking this forum every 10 minutes looking for an update!
