Dropped a fresh set of plugs in earlier this evenin', Popped
it off. Started just like it has been since the carb clean, No
problem(s), Good smooth idle at around 1K. Shut it off and
got some stuff put up and squared away. Took off for the
house and probly 2 blocks from home, She was screamin'
steadily at 35K. Rapped it at the first light and she settled
back out. Second light... She was a friggin "runaway"..!

Shut it off, Walked in the house spewin' just some of
them chinese cuss words... :x  Soooooo...
Color me back to square A.

Sounds to me like you changed more than just the plugs.....

I dunno podnah. Runnin' pretty good after just a
carb clean, No adjustment. I wanted to see where
I was at before having anything else done to the
carbs. Didn't polish the bodies as suggested tho...
New air cleaner. The only real odball thing I ran
into was the "plastichrome" on the airbox had been
manhandled by OP..? Used a little bit of silicone
in hopes of stopping the air draw from the screw
holes. Just dropped the new plugs in otherwise..?

Had a guy tell me sometime ago... The best way
to clean a tank out was to use those white landscaping
rocks. Never tried it personally But, I think I'll
give it a whirl on my way back to square A. Don't
own a sync tool, Just have to get it into a local
shop for a good doll up. Didn't mean to bleed on
you good folks... Guess I was just aggravated. :)

The most complete tank cleaning is - take it to a radiator shop and have them "boil it out" - plan on a re-paint and a POR-15 treatment.

Sync your carbs yourself with a home-made sync devise such as -

Hanging idle - the bane of an untuned XJ
Since it comes and goes, it's some form of vacuum leak that is minutely opening and closing. It could be . . . (the list)
    * intake boots cracking, leaking at the head, the clamp, the vac port cap
    * bad throttle shaft seals (all 8)
    * some obstruction to the throttle cable - needs a little slack

Locate a vac leak with an UNLIT propane torch on an idling motor
Hope that helps, and don't give up. A motorcycle shop is a "bad" place to go.

Ahhaahhhhaaaahhhhh! That is too righteous bro! Can I please
use that as my new sig line... 8) Kinda' like the ol' Dentist office.

Yes sir, I'll try to ease back down to the cave and check it
all out this afternoon. I've got just the propane bottle for it.
