Well that would point to them not being used in every market. Good to know.

Could you tell me exactly what the side stand safety switch does?
I have one attached to my bike, but it allows me to start the bike with it down, i can put it in gear with it down, but I cannot start my bike in gear.
Is that a different safety switch?

The sidestand switch will cause the bike to stall if you let the clutch out while in gear with the stand down.

The neutral safety switch prevents the bike from being started in gear without pulling in the clutch.

The motorcycle will start in gear with the stand down (or up) and the clutch pulled in.

The motorcycle will start in neutral regardless of clutch lever position or sidestand position.

So the three switches that work in combination to control the safety circuit relay are: the sidestand switch, the neutral switch, and the clutch lever switch.

    K-moe,
    Thanks for the reply.
I will check them all, before I ride again.

    K-moe,
Well,it seems that I can pull away in gear with the sidestand down and it won't stall. I will be looking to replace that switch.
I cannot start the bike without it being in neutral.
So looks like 2 replacements are in my future.
    Better get pricing from Len.

I'm not going to try and convince anyone to disable these switches - it's a personal choice and you have to be very confident about it. Not only do you have to be comfortable with the idea you have to commit to really owning your own safety and trusting in yourself not to make these mistakes. Routine is everything if you do and I personally don't let anyone else ride my bike, period.

I'm not 100% sure on the "correct" or intended behavior of the neutral switch/relay. Before mine died it would only allow me to start the bike with it in neutral. In gear even WITH the clutch pulled it still would not start. I've heard this from other experience too so I don't think it was a malfunction, but then I hear that some people can start in gear with the clutch pulled so maybe it changed on different models/years?

What gauge wire should you use? 12,14,18?

look at the fuse it will go to, or went to. 14 for 15A or 20A
    16 for 10A
18 is too small for much, you could use it on 10A but 16 is better.
16 could go on 15A but 14 is better
the only difference is voltage drop and then it's only hundredths of volts in a low current circuit. the headlight should be 14 for sure

Voltage drop and capacity. Put too small of a wire in a circuit and you'll be making a heater...a heater that won't turn off until it catches the insulation on fire.

Can you run just 14 gauge then for the whole harness?

    <Insert electrical joke here>

14 is big enough that it might be difficult to run the wire through all of the tight places. It also costs a little bit more per-foot. There isn't any electrical reason why you can't use it though. Just don't use the same color wire for everything.
