Well... After all the lengths I've taken to get the bike looking as good as it can be I was making an adjustment to the carb & had the tank perched where it looked solid but when I bumped the bike the tank fell and got several dents close to the gas cap. Got a few small but noticeable scratches at the same time.

The3 bike looks darned near showroom perfect other than this so I do need to either fix it myself or have it done. I looked around on Google & found this dent puller called Pops a dent at autozone: http://www.autozone.com/autozone/access ... 40148_0_0_

It's also at Advance Auto & there's one called Ding King on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Ding-King-Dent-Re ... B0007N56L8

If they're both the same function wise, I't'd be easier to get the one locally rather than have it shipped.

Anyone have experience getting dents out of tanks with either of these?

    Thanks

    Gary

Take the tank to your local body shop, they might not see it as a big issue.

I know the auto body shop could take care of it and do a perfect job but nothing in Connecticut is inexpensive when it comes to vehicle repair. I have a dent on my car which happened in a parking lot when I was inside shopping. The dent is maybe 8" x 6" and I was estimated at $700 to get it repaired. I decided just to leave it there.

I would rather have it done professionally but a replacement tank with no dents would likely be cheaper. If these paintless dent pullers work OK but not perfect, I'd be fine with them & OK with close but not perfect results

I have the kit, and it works ok for some dents and not for others. For 20 bucks, get the kit and try it. If it works for you, great. If it doesn't, well, you still have it to use for other times.

Well, I tried the "pops a dent" and sadly I went through a whole stick of the glue and it didn't budge the dent in the least. Seeing as the dents are not really large, just where I can not help but see then beside the filler cap, I think of the remaining options what looks most feasible is to fill in the dents with bondo, the small gouges with glaze, smooth it out and then paint it with the same color red as it originally was so it matches the side panels.

Can anyone offer a suggestion of where I can find a spray lacquer that matches the original Yamaha red?

    Thanks,

    Gary

Pops-a-Dent only puts another dent ... in your wallet.

You won't be happy unless the Tank looks like it did before it became damaged.

    You ... are ... talented!
    I ... am ... talented.

I cannot paint body parts and get showroom quality results.
I can wire, solder and troubleshoot Auto Electric's.
I can troubleshoot and repair early Bosch Fuel Injection.

I took those skills to an Auto Body Shop and traded my time for a Paint Job on that 900 of mine.

All you have to do is find a Body man that would take delight in restoring your Bikes Fuel Tank for the opportunity to have his son or daughter have you give them a Private music lesson or two.

You both get a great deal.

Well... I tried but no ceegar at any of the places I know of locally that are known to be good. For what it's worth (no pun intended), the prices they want are insane.

My bike is beautiful, really, it's been garaged and has had a fairly ding free life but it's not Smithsonian quality and it's my daily ride. I'm thinking if I don't find a used tank in good shape, I'll just bondo the dings and scratches & spray it myself this winter. The job only has to look clean, not showroom new. As a repaint, it's no longer original anyway so what the heck.
