On my xj 650 (4k0 model)
I have everything ready for powder coating except the swinging arm. I am reluctant to send it in with the final drive still attached but I can not see how to disconect the driveshaft from the final drive unit so I can remove them both from the swinging arm.

Any sugestions? or would it be better just to paint swinging arm with rattle cans?

Here's what the Yamaha manual says to remove the drive shaft......

Install the drive shaft puller attachment (special tool) on the side hammer bolt (special tool). Insert the 2 arms of the puller into the mouth of drive shaft housing. Tighten the 2 arms around the toothed flange of the drive shaft out of the universal joint. Pull out the drive shaft from the housing.

Looking at a parts blow up of the drive shaft, I think they are pulling off the u joint unit from the drive shaft.

    Cheers Nick

I do not have a driveshaft puller (or a bearing puller yet) so I think I am best to leave alone and spray with cans. After all "if it aint broke, dont fix it"
