Okay, I installed some new gauges on my bike (82 650 rj). The new gage comes with LEDs for oil, neutral, etc. So I am replacing the warnig light cluster also.

The issue: the warning light cluster had seperate lights for left and right blinkers, the new gauge has a single light for both L and R. The Old L and R share a common ground. If I wire the wires that activated the old light clusters L and R signal together with the single wire of the new gauge, I get hazard lights (both sides blink when the signal is activated).

Can anyone figure out a place that can be tapped to flash the LED regardless of which signal is active without connecting the two togeter?

As a second best option, can anyone figure out a way to just light (not flash) the LED when the signals are active?

    Thanks,

Probably your simplest solution will be to put a diode on each lead that went to the original indicators and then hook them both to the indicator in the new cluster.

The diodes will prevent the left from feeding back through the right and vice versa.

4th, That will fix your bleed to the other side. If it doesn't work the first time, flip the diode around, as you prolly have it backwards.

Yeah, I can never remember which end has the stripe. Robert might be able to help out?

Either both striped ends will be toward the led or both will be away, not one toward and one away.

Anyhow, don't solder until it works

Thanks to all. Diodes worked wonderfully. For future reference, stripe toward Speedo LED was correct. :D It's now all buttoned up and working fine. Now just to fab a new mount for it. Want to move/tilt it. But thats another thread... 8O

Thanks again guys. :D Because of this site, my wife thinks I'm mechanical...when all I can do is read and follow directions... Okay, I'm a little better than that, but you guys rock!!!
