Front brake sometimes gives [resolved]

    Yes, that piece can come of. The caliper is two parts and a screw is holding it together. Take that screw out. Put a thin piece of wood against the working end of the piston and blow some air in the hole where the line attached. See if you can get the piston to move out. (Watch your fingers). If it moves great. Pull it out and clean everything. The rust in the picture is no big deal, however, if the piston comes out and there is rust or corrosion on the inside, you'll have to take care of that.

    As for the touching. You squeze and you put pressure on the piston which pushes it against the disc. When you let go, the pressure is released, but nothing pulls the piston back. It is pushed back by the disc and thats it. So yea slight touching. (Thats whey disc brakes don't have an adjustment, its all done by the fluid).

    I've got everything but the piston out now. Thanks to you I've put some pieces into place and understand this system a bit better.

    I'll have to wait on this a while for the compressed air to get the piston out. It's pretty well stuck, got a bunch of thickened brake fluid and what looked like rust flakes out of it.
