After cleaning & repacking frt wheel bearings the brake disc was draging on the fork tube. The wheel bearings spin fine with no drag. A thin shim between the fork & speedo gear solves the clearance problem. I cant figure out why this change and an not sure this is the proper fix. Any help please PS Glad to be a new member

Be sure to tighten the axle bolt first and then the pinch bolt. You'll have to put a screw driver in the hole to hold the axle while torquing the nut.
Also there is a spacer between the 2 bearings that can drop into the recess of the wheel be sure this is in place when you install the axle.
Torque for axle bolt: 77 Ft. lb.
    Pinch bolt 14 ft. lb.

Welcome onboard, glad to see another H model out there. Impacting your fork is a major issue, this should not be happening. The clearance is at least 1.5 to 2 cm. You have to be missing something. Did you "restack" your spindle exactly as illustrated in the Haynes (assuming you have the manual)? If you set the spacer (part number eight on page 188) in backwards, you will loose some very valuable space and cause your spacer (part number five) to slop around. Ensure that spacer number two is in place as well! Is the Speedometer sender in place? I would not drive this bike until you get this issue worked out. If you lack the book, get it, the XJCD will be out within the next month or two (it is a cd filled with all things XJ, instructions, pictures, specs, etc., handy to have, I'm getting one just as soon as they hit the street). Go review your set up and let us know where you are at. (hint: pictures are a God-send, they say a lot without a single word)

THANKS for the welcome, glad to talk to otherXJers,it is a great bike. I do have the Haynes manual and I put everything back according to figure 5.2 on page 188. The only thing different was that part #5 & #8 was all one piece or they were stuck together. Anyway I did not seperate them. The only thing I can think of is I put that assembly in backwards. All other parts are in order, and i did torque the axle nut before the pinch bolt. Its like the whole assembly is just a few thousands to the left side makeing the rotor drag slightly on the fork cutout. Will tear it apart again to check spacer.

:D Tore frt axel assembly apart this morning, everything was in proper order according to diagram. Re-assembled frt axle and torqued axel nut-NO RUB on fork???? Don't know what changed. The brake disc does run closer to the left side of the fork cutout than the right but I assume the brake caliper can adjust to this. Thanks for all the members help
