At a steady 65-70 I got 47 mpg based on the US gallon or 55 mpg on the Canadian Gallon.

I won't get into the metric stuff.

 

As a quick check, I did some rude math and calculated that I getting about 40 mpg (US), or 6.0 l/100 km on my 750 Maxim. That's doing a few 60 km (40 mile) commutes (one way) through the back country roadswith rolling hills, and then a couple miles of city riding at each end. If I can keep the local deer out of my path for the summer (close call this morning), I think I am set to save some $$$ compared to driving my Ram.

 

Is your front wheel stock size? If it's smaller too, then you're not actually going as far as your odometer thinks you are.

Over the last year, I average 38.5 (+- 1MPG). I track it using mymilemarker.com

That's an '81 XJ750 w/a full Vetter fairing on front.

Fuel stops are right around 150 (I generally stop soon after hitting reserve even though I know from experience I can push it further).

 

I get 50 plus on my 750 Seca with fairing and bags. Will see how my Virago does, just got it running.....

 

3 - 5 grand shift point? I must be running kinda hard because I find myself shifting in regular traffic around 6K and on highways and riding with my friends and thier much larger VTX1800 bikes I'm shifting as high as 11K RPM 8O . Guess I'd better cool it a little.

 

That's what I said, shifting at around 6K is normal.

 

Higher shift points do make a difference in fuel mileage....... Tell those guys in their 1800's to slow down......

 

So are you saying shifting at higher RPM's is better? I shift in betwen 4 - 6k for my normal riding (mostly highway). I am averaging about 40 to 45mpg on my 82 YICS 750 Maxim.

 

"I feel the need for speed !" I am a 6,000 rpm shifter,too like TheHound.
I don't want to get run over from behind at the light change ! It doesn't feel much like a 650 at 4k ! Maybe having a 750 makes a big difference, I see a lot more 750's on the road and on here than 650's
Perhaps that has something to do with my mileage not being as good as you 750 and 4k shifters !

Went for a ride last Sat and finally filled up again today. $1.329/liter. That works out to $5.03/ gallon US. $6.06/gallon Imperial. My mileage was 39.2
MPG US, 47 MPG Imperial or 6 liters / 100 Km.

 

During my 1800+ mile jaunt around the upper midwest I got 44 mpg average. This is with full vetter fairing, 20 mm ammo boxes on the side and a fairly large box on the luggage rack. These containers were FULL of gear. Along with that I had my tent, sleeping mat and a fairly large backpack between my back rest (which was pulled forward) and my box on the back. Lots of weight, my poor shocks screamed at me often.

I was however not in a hurry. Most of the riding was 50 - 55 mph and a fair bit much below. Spent quite a bit of time on broken pavement and even dirt roads. Very little riding on the super slab.

I was very happy with the MPG on this trip. Now when I'm on the commute of 50 miles one way to work I don't get this good of milage. I think it's because I ride a two lane stretch of road with lots of slow drivers and short passing zones. I'm in and out of the throttle alot.

 

Last fill up ,today, I got 48.9 mpg. Max speed was 65mph shifting at 4000 to 4500. Half the miles were in town miles, Going to and from work (only 10 miles round trip).
On a side note. I didnt get this good of a mpg until my first long trip to the mountains. Maybe I blew out the cobwebs. Maybe it was the 1/2 can of seafoam. Either way I am not complaining. The best I got last year was about 38mpg, generally closer to 35.

 

My all stock (except K&N air filter) Midnite 650 with a large National Cycle windshield, a full backrest with a 40 pound pack, and running about 75 mph on the interstate consistently gets me 39-40 mpg. Cruising around local roads at a steady 60 mph, I usually get 44-45 mpg. Never got more than those numbers under those circumstances.

I have installed a smaller Memphis Shades windshield. Intersted to see how my mpg does out on the highway now.

 

I've been averaging 49 MPG with my Seca 900. It has 20 - 1/4 inch holes drilled in the airbox cover (PO) and a 4 into 1 pipe. The pilot screws were all set 3 turns out, like someone set it up "baseline" and never tweaked it.

All spirited riding just this side of a ticket !

My 750 Seca gets 32 - 38 ! Go figure.
My GL500 gets 45 - 50
My V-Star 1100 gets 53 ! (newer technology maybe?)
My Elite 250 gets 85 + and is usually run wide open.

 

XJ900 YICS, 25lt tank, runs dry at 400Km's, normally change ~3,000rpm, pretty quite rider just commuting up to 100-110Km/h. About 6l/100Km's average, sometimes down to 5.5l/100km's, but winters here now so its cold in the mornings, and have a pillion on 50% of the time. 4 in to 1, burbles a bit slowing down, suss it's on the border of running lean. Use 95ron fuel.

 

I have averaged 48mpg so far this season. This is at 65-70mph, 90 mile round trip, all highway. Adding my wife to the back and a little more throttle takes it down to 46. I've not paid attention where I shift at, but taking a guess I'd say around 4000.

 

ok my first numbers are in, i am VERY pleased!

driving mostly 30-60mph, shifting at 4-5k, i got 48mpg.
