thinking about the pod filters for this...... my theory is its easier for carbs to get air, but air is still regulated by carbs..or is this incorrect?

    what you have there is a stock 1982 XJ75oJ Maxim......exactly like my bike.....your Vin # starts with a 15R - XXXXXXX

heads up....pods equal problems....keep it stock.......unless you want to screw around with re-jetting......still might have major problems....once you get her all fixed up....she will look like this......i can help you along the way as well as others.......

that carb rack is stock for that bike.......

My bike......when they are dialed in......they are a sweet ride......what part of Pa. are you from.....??? My bike was similar to yours.....I was quilty of owner neglect for a # of years.....but with time, patience & money...and free advice here....I was able to get her running again.

sorry you snapped thelower intake manifold bolts on carb #2 & #3.......be careful on extracting them out......on re-install.....use anti-seize compoumd.....

Looking at pics of your bike.......the only things that I see that are not stock is your mirrors and your rear taillights ( they should be rectangular like your front ones ). other than that......you definitely have an 1982 XJ750J Maxim....they are sweet machines.....

Do you have a factory shop manual for this bike.....???? or Haynes ???

Those bolts are not going to be fun.
Don't make a bad situation worse.

If you're intent on working without a manual, please put the bike up for sale before you turn it into scrap.

The big line goes from the petcock to the carbs: the small line goes from the petcock to ONE of the vacuum ports----
doesn't matter which one; the other three get caps on them.... Dont try to split the vacuum line four ways.

In the first pic of your carbs:

The hooked bracket attached to the left side of the #1 hat is for the fuel line. The thin hooked bracket on #2 is for the vacuum hose. They're routing brackets.

You sure the thin one is for a vacuum hose?

That one has always been holding my clutch cable.

Nevermind. I seen the even thinner one on the later pics. I'll just slink back into my hole.....
