    Hey, french tracker
I'm in Vancouver as well, got an '81 650.
Followed your story because I've got a similar issue. For me it was because i overfilled the oil.

    BUT
now I think I have a similar problem. The stuff coming out doesn't smell exclusively of oil. The story was my bike had a breather filter on the crankcase valve that was loose, and so I was burning through oil on my first few runs. It ended up overheating and wouldn't start. I topped up the oil too much and the first time I started it again, what I thought was oil started gushing from the new, tight valve. so I'm going to change the oil right now and double check the float heights. I have a couple stripped float bowl screws so my method is to perch the carbs on a table so they're level, and undo them from below, measuring the fuel that's in them from above. I'll do this first to ensure it can't be my fuel level. Beyond that... Well, let's hope it's that. Vancouver only has so much warmth left this year.
I'm understanding it correctly, yes? That it could be exclusively the float heights?

Tight valves won't cause excessive oil in the crankcase.

Float heights, stuck float, crud between the needle and seat, perished needles, perished seat gaskets. Don't run the bike until the carbs aren't pissing gas into the crankcase. Also....starting your own thread for your own problem is good form.

By crankcase breather valve are you talking about the baffle that is inside of the shifter cover?
