Been browsing the thread and decided to make an account. Working on a 82 XJ750 Maxim. Had problems with boss springs 2 years ago. Cracked the case and replaced. I remember there being a debate on doing this job without cracking the case. NOT POSSIBLE. Any how just wanted to say hi and thank you for all the knowledge on here.

I like the bike. I'm going a similar route, eventually, when life stops getting in my way

With the way you have it hardtailed, and your comment in another thread, is your swing arm welded solid or can it still pivot on the bearings?

Swing arm is still pivot. The back end of the frame was chopped off karate style. Dom tubing was then welded on to the back end. Notched new tubing for axle and welded collars on for axle . I was surprised to see how thin the metal was for the stock frame. The upgraded with the dom is was stronger.

Good that you went with some heavier tubing but with the swing arm still being able to pivot is likely why the stud broke off on you
