My headlight beam (high and low - h4 light bulb) doesn't work. The smaller light works everytime I turn on the key, as well as the dashboard lights. But not the main light

    Things I've done so far:

    • replaced the light bulb

    • checked for burned out fuse in the dashboard - all good.

    • looked for broken wire and can't find anything visually wrong

I was hoping you guys could help :)

Do you have lights on US version switchgear, or the UK/Euro version, with the lights On -Off - Park......?

It could be the headlight switch itself, in the latter case ( US are lights on all the time, UNLESS the starter circuit is engaged)

Not sure. But every time I rotate my key ON the small light in the headlight turns on, even if the light switch is off. And my light switch has 3 modes.

Figured he probably did......then I'd suggest it MAY be as simple as the switch contacts.....in the 3 way 'Euro' switch??

Can you disassemble, check the wiring in the switch housing, and switch contacts.....??

Its been.......over 20 years since my last (UK) XJ, so I can't remember whats inside there, exactly!!

Whenever I shift the light switch to ON the lights in the dashboards work as they should. So I'm not so sure the problem resides there.
Also, the high beam indicator light on my dashboard doesn't turn on when it should - not sure if it can be related to the problem tho.

Update: I managed to get the lights working again. Apparently some wires might be getting old or some bad contact - I dunno. But I started moving wires around, twisted a bunch of them and now it's working.
