you would be surprized of how easy it is i saw it on a xs 650 and thought it was going to be dificult but it was all but that it took me probaly 1 hr or so the only thing is that you need a couple of the steel brush bits and good eye to get that final look ...

Nice bike it's already unique, and on it's way to genuine "Head Turner" status. Keep us updated, and welcome to one of the best forums on the internets..

I don't mean to hyack here but, I was thinking of painting my motor and polishing the high spots will this cause an overheating problem?

The only thing that could cause an overheat is painting the fins waaaay too thick. Paint could insulate, trapping heat.
A thin coat of black paint sheds heat 20% better than raw aluminum.

Polishing has less surface area, but you gain "coolness" . 8)

Well I wanted to paint the whole motor black like gloss black. and then sand the paint off the tips of the fins.

May I suggest you do that with a piece of thicker aluminum, then do the "burl polish" in the middle as a stripe, or band, paint the top and bottom your final bike color. This will improve the "fit and finish" and tie the custom covers into the bike.
The mounts should be invisible, as if the cover is just floating there.

hey!! a lil more progress the seat is almost done.... I went a black metal flake on it and it came out pretty cool for the amount of efort put into it..
the # sticker presented on it dates back to 83-85 its been with me since in a group of thing i got from my BMX days and I am highly thinking about using them as well as some vintage BMX pedals for foot pegs.. they date back to exacly 1982 which is kid of cool...
