ok so i have an xj900 83', but my helmet/seat lock will not lock the seat on what im guessing is because im missing the little bar that plugs into it? if someone could please help me out by getting me bar length/diameter along with measurements of any indentations that make it latch into the mechanism that would be great! imma fab one up myself. any complications on what im explaining can be cleared up in the picture its the silver U bar on the seat latch.

The helmet latch (the small silver bar) works seperately from the seat latch. Turning the lock one direction unlatches the seat; turning it the other ulnocks the helmet latch. The seat will latch without turning the key by pressing down on the seat.

Based on your description your latch is FUBAR. Source a replacement; either from E-Bay or send a PM to Chacal.

Well that ain't no fun for me! I like having only 2 keys for the bike. Now I'd have one for my gas cap and seat :/ unless I feel like taking the tumbler apart again

You should only have one key for the bike to begin with. You can swap the lock cylinder from your broken latch to the new one, or have a locksmith do it. Personally I'd look for a matched lock set and swap everything.
