I bought a tire changer with the upgraded bar and rim supports. I haven had the time to work with it yet, but am hoping to get on that later this winter or spring.

Mine is just for dismount/mount..... I'll take it to a local shop for balancing---- eventually I'll get stuff to do that, too....... Eventually

I would like to add one step to Hogfiddles procedure for wheel removal.
    Air down the tire.
That will give a bit more room for it to roll out.

I've pulled both front and back with the guidance of the good people here. Search around, you'll fine procedures already posted for just about everything you could possibly need.

Locally, I found one shop that absolutely WOULD NOT mount a tire that was not purchased through his shop. For years, he was in the practice of mounting tires that people brought in on their own... that is of course until he got sued when someone crashed their bike and blamed him for a bad mounting. Fast forward to the end of the story, he won in court, but spent thousands defending himself. I kind of understand where he is coming from.

My problem is he wanted DOUBLE for any tire that I could buy from a reputable online supplier... and that didn't include mounting and balancing.

Eventually, I found a small shop that would do it for me. $45 per (mount and balance) as long as he didn't have to remove and install back on the bike.

Well, I've never removed the license plate. Many cats to be skinned along the Appian Way (is that how that goes? I forget how that goes.).

That's ok..... Just seems like a little extra work to me. I pull the rim and put it back on. Seems to me, that you let the air out, pull the rim, then when the new tire is on and seated, you have let the air back out, then put the rim on, but then have to put the air back in, too.. But, everyone has their procedure for the way that works best for them. ;)

That is exactly why I bought the tire changer....... I used to take them to a shop to do, too, but now they won't do it because of the above reason........they'll still balance for me.....At least for now-----

my shops said it was because they do not know if the tires were rejects from the factory that someone was selling.
they could not trace where the tires came from. Could not attest to the quality.

kicker is they said if I mount the tire myself they would balance and put new valve stems on the rim.

This is exactly what the first guy said to me. In court they determined that the tire was a reject bought over the internet. Not the mounting/install. Seems a shame... especially when you see the savings on tires from online retailers... I'm talking about reputable ones of course. I bought mine from revzilla.com ... Good customer service and prices are great. They are willing to match ANY legitimate advertised price.

The small shop that I found (to mount my tires) quoted me prices on the purchase of same tires I bough from Revzilla. He wanted TWICE the money. I thought it was high and would consider paying more, but then he told me the and mount/balance was not included in his outrageous quote!

I would absolutely give him my business, but he has to be somewhat in the same ballpark... Even though we like to do most things ourselves, it is still good to keep a relationship going with a shop nearby.

you're just not understanding something----you get gas from the carb, not oil UNLESS your crank case is SO full that the oil level has gotten so high that it ties filling the cylinders enough to flow upward through a open valve and back through the carbs.......but for THAT to happen, your airbox would be full from oil/gas mix overfilling through the crankcase-to-airbox tube, the exhaust systems oils fill up first, since the exhaust valve that is open would be lower than the intake valve due to engine forward cant. Now, consider whether the bike is one the center stand or the side stand, etc... Oil/gas mix levels to actually flow/push.

Are you SURE you are getting OIL back-flowing from the carbs?

Unless I'M just not understanding something.......

Looks like he's saying that indeed it was fuel from the carb, but once leaked out, the fuel mixed with oil already on ground.

ok guys sorry for the late responce i got it done yesterday... the #'s 1 & 2 carb hung open flooding the 1&2 cyclinders with fule that then leaked past the rings in to the crank case flooding the oil (2 extra qts) and it was leaking out the shaft seal and the breather tube to the air box the oil in the carbs was from them sucking it out of the air in the air box i changed the oil aand filter with 20W-50 simi synthithic ma-2 oil, hit the carbs with a hammer till the floats moved, all is well again
