Hi, I'm brichbk from Northern California here because I have a juicy little XJ550 seca project. I took over a project from a friend of mine who was in the process of turning a semi-stock 1982 XJ550 into a cafe racer. It's a complete basket case. It's got a naked frame that's been detabbed and the tail cut off , engine is in pieces with a split case, GSXR front end, cognito tripple tree so I'll have to do clip ons, and a Haynes manual.

I'm mechanically inclined and have worked on other project bikes including a 1982 Honda Nighthawk CB650 and a 1993 & 1991 BMW K75. But none of those projects were as intense as this XJ550 will be. So, I'll be looking for some help and advice as I go along.

My other bike is a 2021 Yamaha Tenere 700 and it's awesome.

Thanks ahead of time to all those who will give me advice and help me out along the way and I hope that I'll be able to help contribute to the community as well.

Dang. That IS a project to be sure.

Any idea why the engine was torn down that far in the first place?

What sort of state are the carbs in?
