How did you get here?

Googling about looking for parts for the 81 Seca 550 that I found next to the road for $800 and it followed me home...was LOOKING FOR an XJ owners site (I helped found the Norton Owners here in MI) and found you folks. I'm impressed, especially by the expertise of your commentators (when they feel the need to intervene) so I joined.

Searching the IN for information on my SECA. Luckily no parts needed yet! But it's a great bike.....

I was looking for information on Yahoo about my new 1983 XJ900RK and there you were.

 

Got linked here from the XJ group on Yahoo at some point in the past. I had just about given up on specialty groups after the Dodge Intrepid forums, half the topics there are about installing useless brainless dresser mods and spoilers. This place on the other hand is great!

I went on google looking for custom XJ750's for what ever reason.

 

I found this site on Google. I put in 1981 Yamaha 650 Maxim.

 

Found it in a cross post from my Astronomy Fourm Cloudy Nights. Someone had a link to a Moto Guzzi forum and that lead to here.

 

Googled after buying my first bike, an 82 750. So far this forum is by far the best I've seen for info pertaining to my bike. Every question I've asked has been promptly and accurately answered by some quality people. I'm hooked!

 

i was looking up pics of custom xj's. found this pretty cool site.

 

I was asking some general questions on the XS owners site about some tech thing for a XJ and one guy referred me to this site. I'm also happy he did. Lots of useful info and fun stuff to read.

I just bought my first bike and it is a XJ650 Midnight Maxim. I had some work done to it as it was sitting in the sellers garage for over a year. Everything is new to me about this bike or any bike for that matter. So i am having some problems with it starting so my buddy told me to look for forums because the guys on them are very knowlegdable. So here I am....Thanks for having me!

So, I considered that a message from god, and so, I found this site. However, since then, I've found that not every one on this site, has a sense of humor.

 

I was searching google for a seca 750 front fairing. And found this site

I got here mostly because of my father. I've always been an American bike guy, I love my 04 Victory Kingpin, but recently told my father I was going to scour Craig's List late in the season to find something that be a little bit more fuel friendly and practical for jetting around and about to work, etc. My father beat me to the punch, found a pristine 82 Maxim 650 with 9K on it, all stock save for new rubber and a windshield...More out of curiosity than anything, I went over to see the bike, take a spin around the block. I expected easy handling, economical operation, what I didn't expect is this bike is FUN! What a great engine, plenty of juice and willing and able, even after I put it through its paces on the local highway. Suffice to say, bought the bike on the spot for $1200, the more & more I ride I think I stole this superb bike.

I never expected the response of a 26 year old engine design that I got when I took this gem out for a spin. Yes, it was very well taken care of...but color me impressed, anyway.

 

I was considering buying an xj and decided to get info on the model first,i googled yamaha xj, and here i am. Yes,i did buy the bike,my first.
LET THE BIKING COMMENCE !!!!! 8O

typed in 1982 xj650rj and somewhere in the mess of sites that had nothing to do with my bike i stumbled on xjbikes. i am so glad that i did.

 

You know, that's a good question. I really am not sure. I've belonged to several forums, depending on bike, or interests. I think I just googled Maxim forums when I got my bike. Before this I was on a couple Honda CB forums, because of my old bike, my usernames were something like MotorMike and Motard, I think, also I was on a Sportbike forum because they were quoting me from another site and arguing about it, so I joined just to reply, and clarify, as I don't technically have a "sportbike" (Y'all may disagree)

Anyway, your site came up when I was looking for an answer to something, probably some basic question about my new Maxim, and there you have it.

 

Google for me as well while doing pre-purchase research for my bike. "1981 Yamaha xj550" search terms and this place came up in like the #2 spot. Hard to ignore that.

 

I beleive I found this place through searching google for bobber conversions and I ran across Crath's thread.

 

Google is your friend...
I found it about two days after I bought my Seca.

Google! I was trying to find every information about XJ650 and I foud this forum.

 

I was asking questions on another forum,& i got told about xjbikes on there.

BUT I'VE FOUND ONE!!! ('82 Maxim 750)

So, i wanted to know more about it... and i've found this wonderful Forum!!

The only thing missing is the Maxim (the owner is being hard to negociate with)

I also found this site through Google but only after countless iterations of "Yamaha XJ750 Seca Maxim". I can't even remember which one finally led me here but I'm grateful. The guys at the Yamaha metric cruiser site are very nice but I think I'll find more info here.

 

I was given the link to this site by a fella on the Ventures site ( www://venturers.org). They are great people and helpful, when I posted about gearing up my Midnight Maxim, someone gave me the link thinking it would help me out.

I got my '85 xj700n from my brother inlaw and I didn't know anything about this bike. I was checking the net when I found the link to this site.
After I read a few topics I felt I found a pot of gold. Thanks a lot to everyone for your contributions.

 

I was looking for a fairing for my 82 XJ750r seca, and this sight popped up. I was happy to see that others are out there sharing all the information

Hi All! New to the Forum here. Found you guys from a mention in a comment on MotorcycleSurvey.com when I was doing a general search for 1982 Yamaha Maxim Parts. Guess you could say that resulted from an original Google search.

My ride is a 1982 Yamaha Maxim 750 which I inherited from my Dad, making me the second owner! It's my only ride and therefore a daily driver/workhorse. We reside in Florida and unfortunately the bike lives outside.

Needless to say the aluminum parts on it are, well shall we say a bit lack luster? Since I live at the end of a horrible two mile long dirt road the poor bike ends up spending a fair amount of time imitating a dirt bike. So... the bottom end of the bike is well, shall we say rather "naturally insulated"?

All in all though the bike runs fairly well and I've had a few repairs done on it. Mostly due as a result of the several years it spent stored in Dad's shed when he became to disabled to ride.

I'll peruse the rest of the forums and post in appropriate threads regarding my concerns and with questions.

Glad I found this site - looks like lots of good info and exchanges going on!

Hi folks, just dropped in quickly to say hello. Found the site whilst looking for inspiration towards my XJ750 rat/bobber project.
Got the bike cheap from someone who got caught, and banned bless him. I've already spent money having the carbs cleaned, stripping and restoring brakes and replacing bars, cables, mirrors etc.
I'm remodelling the seat and rear end, and front guard has been replaced with a cut down enduro tyre. Will post pics when I get some spare time and work out how to set up a gallery on here.

This was a total accident. I was doing the google thing, looking for information on my xj750. This site link came up and I signed on. I am lovin this so far.

 

When I was looking to buy my XJ last year I wanted to find out more info about the bikes. After a few Google searches, I ended up here.

 

I google my way here also. I tell people about this site. IMO my XJ is great but this site is priceless.


Seldom in the course of human events have so many owed so much to so few.
