I bought a tired beat up old 81 750RH last year and have been tinkering around with it, fixing this and that as I've gotten the money to do so (master cylinder needed the snap ring installed properly, blinkers, did my own fuse box replacement, starter brushes, tires and some other stuff that doesn't spring to mind) I sold all my other vehicles about the same time and have been riding it full time since last may. Plan to dig into the valve adjustment this year but none of that is actually what brought me here.

I was watching a movie and right in the opening minute or so some crazy GF kicks over a guys bike and I thought the exhaust looked familiar. I was googling for pics of yamaha pipes when I stumbled here, liked what I read and plan to stick around. I don't really plan on watching the rest of that movie.

I found the forum through Google. I think it was one of the first 3 sites up when I searched. I looked at all of them and this one seemed to be the best.

Also through Google. After my 1992 XJ600S was blown over by a giant "dust devil" that went down our street (seriously -- I watched it happen!), I suddenly wondered about LED lighting and did a search -- not specifically for the bike at all; I just happened to notice that one of the results was a forum about the XJ series.

I got this bike in 2003 with only 3000 miles on it. It now has almost 60,000. I've been working from home since 2005, so it hasn't gotten as much mileage as rapidly it did for the first couple of years. I'll be back to commuting later this year but only about 10 miles or so instead of the 40 miles (each way) I used to do.

My last bike blew up at 60,000 miles, but it was a Kawasaki EX250 so it wasn't meant to have that kind of mileage put on it. Hopefully the XJ600 will last much longer, leaking beast though it is. There just aren't many bikes out there these days that don't have ridiculous amounts of power and torque that you couldn't possibly use and which just makes them dangerous in inclement weather.

I ride year-round. I have never driven a car. I'm 39 years old. I've been through three feet of standing water in a flood, blown from one lane to another in heavy rain as my feet were dragged as outriggers, had to lean less right to turn left in heavy crosswinds, and crabbed the rear end up a hill in a heavy snowstorm, but I've never crashed because of weather.

...but now the bike has crashed because of weather! I just wasn't on it.

I found the site while googling info to get my 700 running. I've got to say, this site is full of some great info. It's the most informative forum I've come across. Usually I hate forums because they're full of useless garbage but that's definitely not the case here. Keep up the good work!

Hi to all. First post on this forum.

Wife has been looking for a bike for a while now while she's working on her license. (She's a great passenger but I think she's getting tired of the back of my helmet) She stumbled across a '95 Seca, hardly a scratch on it w/ only 10,000km on it for $2200 so she snapped it up. It's a bit tall for her, so we've been looking for ideas to make it fit. I typed in "Seca Forums" in Google and lo and behold...

I ride a 650 VStrom and found a lot of help on the Stromtrooper forum, so I figured it would be a good idea to join up here also.

    Cheers

I picked up my first Maxim 650 in the spring and loved it. The PO neglected alot of things on the bike and it needed some attention. I googled My bike with the word repair after it and found this site's XJ repair CD set. I browsed the forums and immediately felt at home. Great bunch of guys with the knowledge to help me get my bike running better and CHACAL for the awesome parts list for my bike.

Thanks for all the hard work and input everyone has put into this site making it easier for all of us :)

I found it through fixya.com, was asking for a repair manual for an 84 Maxim 400. Response was to try Chacal at XJBikes.com.

    No manual though.

I found your site with a google search "1982 yamaha seca 550". I recently acquired one after being offered it in trade for an old cube van.
So far, new battery and flush old gas. Bike fired right up after sitting in the back of a pickup for over a year. I now can tell anyone interested exactly what happens to one of these should it start WITHOUT a number three pilot jet installed. Needles to say actually glad I put off the oil change till I tried to fire it. It will run,,but I suspect not for long. Still trying to decide if I want to change it at all, or ???? Lots of ideas here. Its not cherry,,,but its complete and in fair original condition. Well complete as long as po returns with left side cover and air box lid when he pics up the van. I am looking for exhaust suggestions.

just searching with google, looking for info on my 82 xj650 seca. I am trying to find out what the "G50" below the "Seca" badge on the side covers is a designation for. picked it up for $800 (us) with only 8100 miles on it.(seriously!) I am wondering if it is too special to modify. don't wanna screw up a collector or anything. did a 230 mile run on my last day off. runs great.
    glad I found you.

The side cover badge actually reads "Seca 650", not "G50"...........the number "6" is stylized version, and appears as the letter "G"!

OK. Wow. I feel a little dense. Hahahah. And I am supposed to be an artist!
    Thanks Chacal!
What isn't funny is that I have actually downloaded a font called "Seca" using that font. Shoulda known better.

I was doing a google search on a mountain near me (Mica Peak) when I came across www.micapeak.com. That's where I found www.xjbikes.com.
I live just a few miles from Mica Peak. Many years ago, I bought my '82 XJ750J from a guy who lives in Mica, which is at the base of the mountain. It's all too weird, but I have found me a home! This website make XJ ownership a wonderful thing.

I was going to repair a friends 1982 XJ550 Maxim and instead he gave it to me for free. Free is good, except when it comes to old bikes. Then it's expensive.
