How did you get here?

I googled 1981 xj650 Maxim parts for sale and came across the site.

 

I found the site from searching for parts on google. I must say its a good find.

 

Another googler. I liked the attitude of the Admin and moderators, as well as the community. Straight talk, no BS. I was hooked.

 

I was fed up with the non-working starter clutch on my '82 XJ750 Maxim that I had bought for $500 and was told it ran and was an easy fix... I had let it sit behind the house for 6 months and was considering junking it or converting to electric. While doing searches around the web, stumbled upon this site. Glad I'm not alone! Have since started and ridden the bike. I'm now going through the carbs and plan on completely going through the bike one system at a time... You guys have saved another great bike from an untimely death!

 

I googled Yamaha XJ carbutetors. Took me right here. Great site with lots of great information.

 

I purchased a 82"650 seca last week and wanted more info on xj bobbers.so I googled it and your site was third down and i saw ,solo's bobber build.so here i am.I have now finished my seca after a week and looking for a new project.

Yet another enlightened/enlightening (still in the process) person, thanks to google, would be myself.

 

I was looking online for valve cover gaskets for my 550maxim and came accross a review site that talked about a guy named "chakal" on these forums with a link to one of your threads. After that I couldn't resist joining.

 

Same as most replies, I stumbled upon here via google.
Also, to metion I had one recommendation from a seperate forum I was browsing.

So far it has been nothing but good reading and great advice.

Was looking up different 80s bikes before I even bought my xj and one of the commenters said to check this site out, I ended up getting the bike and here I am :lol:

 

I was "gogleing" for yamaha XJ 900 F, looking for parts and informations.
And i found "XJbikes" and i'm glad fot it...

I knew nothing about XJs when I bought mine from a mate, so I googled and came across xjbikes.. been the best help with my mods and tech stuff!

 

I found the site, while looking for information about the cam chain tensioner on my XS400 Maxim. The funny thing was I didn't even have an XJ. I just bought my first XJ750 Maxim this week, so now I have a reason to be on here.

Digging around on Google for ANY info on XJ750's clicked on here and hit paydirt!

picked up an 83 Midnight Maxim from a guy going through divorice at the end of last year, figured give it a cleaning and resell. Ran into some not so politically correct repairs, and the more i learned of these bikes-the more I liked em. Think I am going to hang onto it, Thanks

 

when i first got my bike i was googling like a madman and somehow came across this site. can't say for sure if it was a direct link off google or through another site. glad i found it though.

 

Cant remember how I found it- all I can say is "now I am home"

Seems to me if you google that many things and the same place keeps popping up, it's probably the best choice...and it is.

 

I got here because I wanted to get another bike after getting rid of my YZF600R. I am a big guy and chains and big guys do not get along with high performance bikes and lots of miles. I had one pop off doing about 80 on I-5 and it darn near killed me.

At any rate, I was all ready to buy a CX500 for commuting because it had the shaft drive and a decent little power plant. But the wife wanted the option of going out for a ride every now and then and I knew that bike would huff and puff. With that in mind, I began searching for mid-displacement shaft drive bikes for cheap.

Well, I love Yamahas and found a great condition but not running XJ750 Seca for $450 and grabbed it. Naturally, to get it running I had to go to the net and that is how I landed on XJBikes.

Love this place and all communities like it. Wealth of knowledge on this board and this medium is the best way to disseminate it!

 

I just recently Purchased an '82 750 Seca and did a search through google for forums and it brought me here I came looking for Tech help as well as ideas and maybe some parts. My bike is in need of quite a bit of work before i will be able to ride it.

 

Gee all I did was look for forum for Yamaha Maxim XJ750 when I bought mine and up you poped.

 

just bought an 82 XJ and got online to find anything i could about chopping this sucker up...ran across this site and here i am

I am a long time owner of an 81 xjlh and i am having running issues. I posted this on a forum that i am part of called islandriders.ca . someone there suggested i try this site which i did and now may have solved my carb issues.

I found this site searchin google for parts and info about my "82 xj550 maxim. Just picked her up as my first bike last year and she is in great shape considering the age. Ive had to do a couple minor tune-up/maintenance, havnt cracked it open yet, but everything is in good working order and I couldnt be happier : ) Was really pleased with all the posts ive read, this site is very knowledgeable and an asset to any xj owner.

 

a mate of mine recomended the site to me ,(matie69) both of us being owners of xj600'S i thought id give it a try ,, liking it so far , currently re building my xj as a xj cafe , will get some pics up as soon as i can ,

 

Looked on the forum for a few years then just joined one day.

 

I wanted to buy a used and cheap bike and by chance found my 81 XJ650 Maxim on Craigslist for around $500.00 in good running condition then did a search for parts etc. and found the site - hv been a regular since then (2 years).

 

Recently I was given my first motorcycle and it needs some parts. Being a bit of an analytical mind I googled a good forum for xj's and found you guys. I'm happy to be spending most of my time on the computer reading through threads to learn the proper mechanical checklist's that I'm preparing as I get this bike ready to be on the road. Thanks for a great site. And I'm sure you'll be seeing some posts of mine soon.

 

I found this place looking for info on my newly acquired 82 XJ650-J. I poked around some and lurked and decided to become a member. After all I am sure at some point I am going to need help fixing something. This is my first motorcycle! I love it, but I think I will be doing some carb work soon, it wants to idle about 3500 RPM when warm/hot when in neutral or with the clutch all the way in.

But anyway, I am happy to have found this little spot on the 'net!

 

I googled xj 750 bobber to get some ideas about what i wanted to do with my xj.I really like the feature to create a album of my build step by step.It is also nice for my dad to see what i am up to living 500 miles away.Lastly there is alot of good tips and knowledge available for the many problems us d.i.y. customizers encounter on a daily basis.Thanks for creating such an awsome site.

I was searching for valve clearances for my "new" '82 XJ550.

See my son dropped the bike off last year, saying it didn't run. It had also never been registered in his name since he'd bought it 4 yrs before. So now I had this bike in my garage not registered, titled, or running.

Got the carbs rebuilt, fired up pretty well. Sometimes number 2 doesn't fire, sometimes number 1. Haven't figured that out yet, but since its running, I figured I'd adjust the valves, then try to figure out how to sync the carbs.

Soon, I have to figure out how to get a title for it. I guess this is the forum for me!

Hey I ended up here after I bought my first bike a few weeks ago. She's a 1982 xj650 with 10k miles when I bought her. She's around 10,500 now, and it's been very smooth sailing.

 

Same old story lost in cyberspace looking for useful inf and saw a light at the end of the tunnel. :lol:

Searching the web for info/specs on my bike before I bought it.

 

I used to be a member at FJR forums( way back in the old economy when I had a real job and got paid real money 2007) Now I just got a 81 550 maxim and I like it. This is my 3rd buy an old bike and fix it up (78 xs 650 e , 77 gs 400b and now the xj550. And i gotta say Yamaha owners have the best forums , hands down the goldwing,suzuki, kawasaki sites aren't even close . Best info best people answering and best jokes 8)

 

After selling my 800 Intruder for some quick cash, I started researching getting my first street bike, 81 xj550 going again. It's been stored for about 10 years with a few half witted attempts to get it going. After finding this site, I know I can arm myself with the knowledge to do it. Great site for some great running bikes!

 

I recently bought a '82 maxim 400. I have never owned a bike before nor have I ever worked on one, however, I've wanted one since I was little. I thought this would be the perfect time to get a bike as a new project.

I found this site by googling the type of bike. This was the first site that came up, and as soon as I joined the forum I knew I had found the right place.

The other users on this site are friendly and very helpful. Being a complete newbe to the motorcycle world, I was intimidated becase I didn't want to ask "stupid" questions. But, I've found that the people on this seat will answer even the most basic questions without making me feel like an idiot.

I want to thank you for letting me on your forum. This has been a invaluable resource in helping me get this bike back on the road.

I was given a 82 Maxim that had been sitting in a barn unloved and unused for several years. The owner said that he parked it one night and the next day it wouldn't start. He claimed it was not getting spark.

The condition I got it in is as follows. Spark plugs missing, engine froze up, various linkages froze up, leak in the left side crankcase cover. fuse box was gutted out and the wiring jury rigged. Plus every square inch of the bike needs a good cleaning.

Work done to date. Replaced the fuse box with a current blade fuse box, 2 days of a Marvel Mystery oil in the cylinders freed up the engine. Installed a new battery and turned it over last night. The carbs need to be pulled before I can start it. The throttle linkage is froze up. I have a new crank case cover gasket on order.

It won't be show room quality in appearance, but I think I will have some cheap transportation for getting to class.

I forgot to say how I got here. I was Googling how to fix the wiring on the bike. I found this place.
