    I've done 195/KPH on my 80 650. Gets a little twitchy.

fastest i have been on my 550 was i think 75mhp so far

the bearings in my fork clamps where loose and she started to wobble and i decided to not take it any further

i guess to be correct i should say the bearings are in the neck of the frame

My speedo isn't working and it only goes to 85 mph anyway but once I hit 7100 RPM's on my 750. Based on your readings I must have been at least in the 90's.

Oops...I dug deeper into this thread and it appears that 7k is right where the 85 mph speedo pegs out so I guess I only made 85-90 mph at 7100 RPM.

Had my '82 Seca 650 up to about 125mph (calculated from rpm) once or twice. Was actually pretty stable at that clip.

The 550s want to pull right to (and past) redline in ALL gears.

I now have a brand new 150mph speedometer which works great.

We gonna find out, but it will have to wait for new tires.

I maxed out my speedometer on an open highway in Kansas once. My speedometer ends at 135 mph, so I had to have been going somewhere between 135 - 140 mph.

All I could think about was, "If a deer jumps out in front of me all that'll be left is blood and dust."

I saw a thing on the Science Channel one time where they ran an F-16 into a specially hardened concrete wall at like 600 miles an hour.

All that was left was dust. Damndest thing I ever saw. The entire airframe VAPORIZED.

You be REAL careful with that new speedometer BigFitz. We need your expertise on the forum.

Sort of related, speed wise I mean. My wife was having surgery on Monday and while I was waiting another dude had a copy of the current Walneck magazine. They did a ride eval on a '69 ??? Norton Commando 750. If your 850 is a newer and improved version it must be an absolute rocket.

there arnt any freeways ware i live...on islands. but thers a stretch of road i ride all the time. thers only one. us1. but its the stretch i take to get to napa. and i hit 105 almost everytime i ride it. other than that. ive hit 115 on a road called the stretch.once. there pretty stable bikes. suprisingly. scene as its older than i am. anyware else is to risky for cops. so i dont do it anyware else. i like riding my bike and you cant do that in jail. last summer i went on a road trip with some of my friends...very rich dad. and he let me ride the fz6 they have for the trip. i got up to 153...thats fast. hes also the one who gave my my xj.

Well during the summer of 83 I was racing a friend on his cb1000 and I lost control, on loose gravel with no helmet, flip flops, and shorts. Well I was on my way down and got some control and right into a peas field (in northern maine) well peas where flying every where, when I came out of the field, no breaks where used while in the field 200 yards down the field I was still doing 80. So how fast was I going I have no idea, man did them grean beans mess up my pipes.

25MPH is the top speed on Catalina Island and thats what my '81 750 Seca has done. But she's got some power and I'll get her to the mainland eventually for a speed run.

I was able to pull it to about 118 MPH (190 KMH) on the day i was able to find a stretch of Highway with no speed cameras and nobody behind me (here we got a LOT of unmarked patrol cars and we're allowed to drive 60 or 75 MPH).

#1. I flew jet fighters for 25 years. Nothing with it's wheels on the ground is going to impress me with how fast it goes.

#2. I've tempted death enough times (see above).

#3 My bike has 6 gears. It will go 65 in 3rd gear. That's all I need to know.

started to back off at 80 thinking about widowing and orphaning the fam.

around 78 did the quick math on my life insurance and quick check of gear.

wound it up to 100 so i could say i did the ton if anyone asked.

slammed 5th and got to about 122- 127 (vibrating speedo and nerves), realized that was all it had. didnt plan on telling anyone but yall asked and dont think I have the stones to go over 80 again.

Yes it does and yes it will. Faster, actually.

It will also cruise effortlessly at 80mph all day. If your bike is properly tuned and set up, with solid suspension and brakes, 80 feels no different than 60. I tend to cruise at 70~80 on rural backroads. And my XJ thrives on it.

I have the 1982 xj1100 and I just don't know how fast I have been on it.

I have buried the 85mph speedometer many times. I ride and drive above the speed limit as a general rule. I don't ride on the highway that often I find them to be dangerous. I did open it up on the highway once and when I let off it took a full 6 sec to get back down to 85 mph. If I wanted to go real fast I would get a new sport bike. The new Yamaha XF 1300 will go 165 mph and take your luggage with you. :)

I have gone fast enough on three occasions to twist the speedometer cable in two... I don't know how fast that is exactly but it's way faster than I know I ever need to go.

Haven't had my XJ out of the garage yet - trying to get it running after 10 years of sitting someones garage.

I did have my 80 XS100G wide open in 5th but speedo only went to 85.

That instrument cluster is awesome Fitz. I think for the winter I'll keep my XJ's at your place. :D

Now as far as the topic I would guess I had my Seca a tad over 100 many, many years ago when I was racing my buddy on his Seca 550. The Maxim has only seen a few miles as I'm still working on some things. As for that red bike of mine I don't want to say on a public forum as I like the outside of jail. :)

Gps mounted on the handle bars or speed check vs car or more modern bike. My speedo is within 1-2 mph of my car, gps, and a number of other bikes I ride with.

the odd 70 to 75 mph that's all - lots left - would prefer tearing the engine down just to check the condition of cam chain etc. before doing more often besides when you get going that fast it's too difficult to see the smiles on the people I pass by at the sight of my vintage ride lol

I've had mine up to about 35mph. I just did carbs and valves and don't yet have tags or a motorcycle licsence and wanted to see how it ran before I did anything else to it that I've got planned. Yesterday was the first time I've been on a bike in over 41yrs since I had a 350 Ducati Desmo in college. I was a little shaky at first but it started coming back. So if you see an old farmer blasting down dirt roads in rural Va., it might be me so wave.

I have an 82xj 650. According to the gps speedo I once hit about 120mph before backing off. It had more left but I was actually getting blown off the seat lol, that's a little scary on a major highway. I've never tried it again. And ill be honest I probably never will that feeling of being one loose grip from flying off the back of the bike really makes you respect the bike. To my knowledge the bike is all stock, so I'm sure the 700s and Turbos could go well past the 130mph mark if you desired.

The Gold Wing I was riding with said we hit 120. Not sure if he embellished or not but it felt like 120 and was definitely redlined in 5th.

Does passing everything else on the highway like it was standing still count as "fast"?

And I'm still finding more power the more I tune and tinker.....
