L.D. do you know how many kph 45 mph is?
I would be lost to know how many mph 60 kph is... and if the sign says 55 mph I want to be sure I dont make a wrong guess here.

I am the worlds worst when it comes to converting metrics to sae
(or what ever the system of measures in the US is called)

I assume they read MPH on the inside then? And does that mean you want to help me find one? 8O

Didn't you Americans change to the metric system sometime in the 1970's?
    Or was it just suggested...

We changed - we just have a lot of harley riders to convince.

    It's gonna take time...

Too many people are hung up in the SAE system and there isn't nough support to make the big change.
It's like they started to do this slowly but it just stalled out.

Yeah, the Canuck ones show mph on the inside of the dial, you may be able to make out the numbering on the dash pic in my gallery - pretty tough to read at anything over 10 though (pick your own unit of measure...).

Try bike wreckers in the major centers - Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, etc. My favorite is a place called Recycle in Stony Plain, Alberta. I've yet to see a wrecker lot without at least one Seca in the pile, and I wouldn't expect demand for speedos to be huge. I can check the next time I'm out that way...

Sweet, I think I'll try to find a newer speedo then. Yea, I've been to bob's quite a few times (it's right down the street from me... well, less then 5 miles away). Infact I'm headed there tomarrow to check on a gas tank, blinker, pick up my new helmet, and see what else I can't spend money on while I'm there.

The phone number is the same, atleast thats the number I have writen down on my wall.

when i 1st bought my xj700 , i thought i got ripped off because when i shifted at low rpms. the bike was sluggish, so after a tantrum of buring the throttle . I was both shocked, and thrilled to find out that the bike perferd the higher rpms. Now thats how I riidz it.lol have fun and be safe

I guess around 4-5k in the city, 9-11k while getting onto the highway, and I rev it continuously when I stop, to keep it from dying! ; )

normal home-work traffic i tend to stay low in revs except for one piece of road I push to top-speed, when traffic allows it.

For the fun rides i look out for curvy roads keeping low gear high revs.

I rev appropriately...depends on alot of cercumstances.
If I am getting on at one of my favorite On Ramps...its WOT.
Stopped, easing out the clutch and giving her some gas... Redline 1st - SHIFT, here come the 2nd Redline and doing ~60mph already - SHIFT, and moving toward burying speedo needle and soon comes 3rd Redline - SHIFT, Getting Ready For Take Off. Ten. Nine. Eight. Seven. Six. Five. Four. Three. Two. One. BLAST OFF - Redline Fourth.

At this time I KNOW I NEED to stop accelerating. I shift into Fifth and kinda look over at the car I just caught up to out of NOWHERE. He looks at me as I creap past his window, he's wondering "where in the heck did this biker come from?" and "man, XJ's are so dead sexy!"

[/long uninteresting descriptive story about fast acceleration] ;)

I ride the 750 like a Formula Car. I keep the revs up and let the Engine do the work.

I like living at the high end of the tach. I don't think about economy much. I think about the fun I'm having playing Jet Pilot!

I don't have a rev limiter on the 750 yet, so ... It gets revved-up to 7,000 pretty routinely.
On the open road ... it stays at 6,000 because that's about 75 or 80 mph.

Oh, how I wish there were another gear to shift too.
I'm constantly checking to see if I'm really in 5th.

5th is pretty much just an Overdrive on the Maxim. It could handle having a faster 5th gear, I'm sure.

But, I like tach-ing it up and matching revs for down shifting and pushing it into corners under power.
The handlebars get in the way a lot.
Stock 750 Bars are like pushing a wheelbarrow.
You don't feel totally in control with your elbows way spread-out.

I need new bars,, but I don't know what or where to find them.

Let's just say when I'm out for fun, I try and keep it twisted up between 6.5 and 9.5. That's the fun zone.

Rick, I just put a set of Bikemaster GP Touring bars on my 750. Makes a big difference, if you don't mind a bit of fatigue on the forearms. I actually lean forward now instead of sitting up straight. Pulling the bike around corners is much easier now.

BTW the bars were recommended by smokamoto40 in another thread. Thanks, smokamoto40.

I keep it around 4k just toolin' around. 5k or 6k on the highway. 5k is smooth at 65mph. 6k is smooth at 78mph. 5.5k feels like she's coming apart and I develop a shimmy as I exceed 80mph. I'll have to balance the front wheel and see if that helps.
I have pegged the speedo out around 8k once or twice but it is not comfortable and I am not comfortable revving that high for any length of time.

    stereomind,
How does that wind screen behave at higher speeds? I'm a little leery of the 2 point mounts being stable. I have been looking at the Spirit from Jet Streamer for my 750 but I like the look of the sportier screens better.
