More than I should have, less than I would have.

THIS!!!!! Haha purchased my 1985 700 airhead for $700 non-running (I was going by the one dollar per CC "standard"). $200 for the starter, $200 for the rear tire, $3 can of carb cleaner (to clean the carbs to get them started). I just spent $170 on the fork seals and front tire mount&balance. Spent another $90 on eBay for an OEM air filter and a replacement speedometer drive unit (the unit at the front wheel hub). $15 on headlight bulb. $25 for speedometer cable. $95 for the battery. Main relay cost me about $40-50. Tune-up was cheap, around $20 (4 spark plugs, one cap). I was lucky enough to find really damn good carb boots for $125 for the whole set (as opposed to the $90 per SINGLE boot that whoever is in charge of the XJ4EVER site wanted). So let me put it this way, I invested around a grand in my bike, and I stopped counting since that.....

The worst part is: I'm not even done!!!! I am 90% sure my valves will need adjusted, after looking at the price of a shim kit alone, I figure it'd be worth the $200 for the local shop to do it, because it comes with a free carb sync afterwards. My clutch is going out. I pretty much need to rewire the whole bike because it's such a gosh darn mess!

I say I have invested around a grand, because no matter how much I hate this bike for costing me so much money, it's worth it. This bike is blast and will put smiles on my face until either the day it dies or that I die....or both.........

I've noticed that with each successive purchase, the price has risen.
Started a decade ago with a SECA 750 which I got for $250, and then paid a local mechanic $400 to NOT fix the carbs. (Subsequently discovered XJbikes.com and XJ4ever.com). Never did get it titled/registered. It's now a parts donor.
Another SECA 750 for $500, came with a full factory fairing and was my ride for a bunch of years.
A couple of XS 1100's, $400 apiece. Still in process of rehabbing. Garage is full, may get rid of 'em.
Three 900's in 2015, prices started to go up, and up. But so much more fun to ride than the 750! And better looking.
Piece de Resistance- end of Nov.- a '93 FJ1200 w/ ABS, in beautiful condition. $2400. The FJ and the 900 are comparable off of the line, but from 75mph up the FJ is a bear.
Like many of us (ahem, Dave) many probably won't ever become too many.
I'm thinking of starting a local MA (Motorcycles Anonymous) meeting.
"Hello, my name is Ross and I buy Yamaha's".
