If they had any idea how screwed-up they made it for some people who trusted that text and removed the Air Jets (unnecessarily) ... they ought to send a check to every person who bought the book refunding the money they spent on it.

At least three people in here have gotten burned ... and, I imagine there are countless others who delved-in to Carb Cleaning and did the same thing.

I really think, at this stage in the game, that there ought to be a "Special Edition" dedicated strictly to Mikuni and Hitachi Carbs for those people who have older bikes and can't find a decent Dealership that will give them the time of day.

A nice 200-Page ... Photo and instruction ... plus Special Tuning Section would be a nice thing to find under the tree this Holiday Season.

With all these carb problems why don't we just make a manifold and put a Holley on it?
Rick please don't have me killed for suggesting it.
It's just that I do Holleys in my sleep.

I'm laughing at suggesting the Holley. If it would go, I'm sure there are Hot-Rod guys in here that would rather have the Holley than a 4-Pack of Carbs that need Syncing and tuning.

Holley is one of the easiest Carbs to make tuning changes too. Just buy some Holley Jets and lift off the covers ... whammo ... rejetted ... no muss or fuss!

I only have a problem with the Holley Power Valves. Blew a power valve on day onn the way to work and it looked like the Camaro was fogging the countryside to get rid of mosquitoes!

Just wondering if people can helpout as I have mine off the bike - has anyone written down the float height after they've got the petrol level at the 1-2mm below mating surface level.

Maybe I'm just a Luddite, but I really like a a number/measurement that I can use to set the float too - I always seem to move the clear plastic hose and it never seems very exact to me, plus the outer two drain screws are corroded in.

I found a site that said 15-17mm for the BS28 Mikuni, but they wouldnt go that low (and the carbs would then flood) while someone else said that 'all carbs of that period' are set to 21 mm.

Has anyone written down their measurements ?

    Many thanks.

My bike has BS33s and the manual says to set them at 17mm, but like yours, they wouldn't go that low. I set them at 23mm and the level is about 3mm below the top of the bowl.

    Thanks Twerth

I'll set them at 21-22mm then and that should be about right.

Now I just need to see if the spare/replacement carbs have got better diaphragms than the ones I took out ...
