Gotta say... That's some amazing work there. And yeah, your attention to details is remarkable! Good eye and excellent execution!

BUT!! Are those the original Qualifiers on that thing? Not sure I agree with Fitz about riding it in the rain!

Re: UDPATED:07/30/2011:'82 xj750 Project is ...FINALLY COMPL

Yeah, I think they might be the original tires  that's the next thing on the must do list. Riding in the rain really isn't in the picture though since I begin to melt when caught in the rain (that's how sweet I am....)

    BAHAHAHAHA....

It was hard keeping a straight face on that one..lol

Crown Royal - Not sure of the original make/model for the fairing. It is an original OEM Yamaha make though. I just kept lurking on Ebay till I found what I was looking for. I think that took almost a year during the build 8O . I DID still have the sporster muffs but I just recently sold them on Ebay since they were taking up space and potential build revenue! :D

Thanks BigFitz for the tip, that will come in handy as my attention to the I start to the finer details now :D

Thanks for the great comments guys. It's nice when people recognize hard work and effort even if it's not their taste :D

I hate to bring this up...

How much disassembly is going to be required to remove the rear wheel?

Not too bad, only 4 bolts hold the fender onto the the struts. More than likely I would just hoist the back end up with my brother's engine hoist/A frame till I can just drop the rear wheel straight down 8O
    8) :D

Here's a quick vid of the exhaust and a question (of course..).
Why will my idle keep getting higher as the bike warms up? Do I need to lean out the idle or make it richer. Have not done plug chops yet...By the time she is up to riding temp she will idle at 3k, but if I put her in gear and slow the motor down with the clutch, it will stay on a low idle until I twist the throttle again, then is goes back up to 3k...

WOW! That's about 90% my style if I was able to customize my "parts" bike that nicely.

I like the matching tribal forks logo.

Page 7 of the build details the process I used so if you have access to a welder and a pipe bender, you too can have a set of pipes like these :D

I have had a few pm's and questions about the fairing, and I just found this.

This is the same fairing I have except I cut the windsheild about in half to lower it's profile. It's a sport fairing Yamaha made. Found this one for sale here ... kinda pricey..(if he still has it, that would explain the pic with snow in the background!lol) I think I got mine for $45. but then again you don't see them very often and if it's what you need/want, I guess price is relative :D

Great build, since moving back to Texas I have no garage so not much has been done to my bike. This past summer all summer over 100 degrees now that winter is here freezing temps. I need to find a garage just so I can do the basics and someday start a project of my own, I like it everybody is willing to share what they are doing ask for input on a build and others that share when we have problems and we need a helping hand Thanks to everybody on this site

WRAP UP :D Here's a short video I made just for grins, messing around with some video editing software and my go-pro camera earlier this summer.

DISCLAIMER: Make sure your sound is turned down .. :D

    Voodoo Video

Well, I finally got the tires changed on her this summer :D I picked up a bike lift dirt cheap from one of the local online auction sites. Problem is, the lift was too short for my 750's. Easy fix... I just added a removable tail section. Works out great because I can drop the tail section to make tire removal easy..

    Stunning at so many levels.

    But,

Can I ask why you removed the final drive from the swingarm?

Two reasons actually; #1 - I needed to replace the rear brakes... but most importantly... #2- it was either that or remove the exhaust pipes 8O It was one of those "sooooo close" moments, but with my pipes there is about 1/4" of interference to clear the rear wheel with the drive intact.. no matter how I twisted or nudged or contorted... and that was even with the shocks unmounted and the swing arm all the way down :? DOH!

    Shinko SR777's front and back

p.s. I fixed the video link in the previous post

my friend this is easily the cleanest most beautiful i have ever seen, and for it to come out of your home garage is absolutely incredible. i have an 82 650 myself and have been looking for ideas on straight pipe exhausts which you have given me in spades, did you end up using baffles or rejetting? and what did you do to get the led signals working? a "no load" or "variable load" flasher? or did you add resistor packs?

and one final question, my original clear on the motor of my bike is peeling off, when you finished buffing did you clear the covers?

    Thank you:D
I did not do any rejetting and am running with no baffles and I have not had any issues with backfiring or poor performance. This spring when I replace my plugs I will do a color test as I may add baffles because I need to wear earplugs when riding 'cause this beast is LOUD! :D
For the LEDs I completely bypassed the stock flasher and went with Signal Dynamic's self cancelling unit like this. Since I eliminated the stock controls by going this route I still retained self-cancelling signals :D
    [IMG]

...and finally...for the engine covers that were polished, I did not clear them. I simply use some mothers mag/aluminum polish a couple times per year to keep 'em lookin' good :D

    Thank you! :D

Damn! That's one beautiful, hot rodded xj!! Nice clean body lines, sick exhaust, and the fairing and fenders finish it off nicely!!
A true example of what a custom bike should be...

Was looking through this and realized I never posted the additional pics that some guys asked for...
There's a whole bunch here that we did for a magazine submission..

Here's the folder with the ones that made the cut for the submission

It never made it into the mag, the editor said it wasn't "the right genre /style of bike for their mag" yeah..I guess it wouldn't fall into the 'garage/home built cycles' style... whatever..lol well here's some more pics for my XJ buds! :D

That bike is amazing. I recently found that same fairing at a bone yard. There was no windshield though. I thought I saw yours with a tinted windshield also. You fabricate your own or just buy them off eBay? I am looking for a windshield solution and any advice would be helpful.

The clear one was the original that I cut down. I did fabricate a tinted one last fall, here's the link to the thread showing how I did it. If you get me an address I can make a paper template of the current tinted one, or for $15 plus shipping I can send you the clear one. :D

Wow. That is very good job of fabricating that windshield. And really? You'd sell me the old one? Nice. I don't seem to be able to pm so here is my email. If you send me an email, I'll give you my address and figure out what I'll owe ya for shipping etc...

Don't know about the "mere moments",... :D but I do have plans to try and convert this to a hydraulic brake system. I've just been so busy with rebuilding the brake system on one of my 'collector' cars, that I haven't had time to get to my bike projects.. yet. :D Car is done, time to get to the serious work :D Here a link of my proposed 'upgrade'

Has anyone been able to track down the fairing make and model that is on VooDoo? I have been trying for literally days looking at hundreds of pictures, searching with as many keywords as I can think of and I cannot find the Yamaha it came from. It looks very familiar...I even looked at the Phazer snowmobile. Close, but no cigar...HELP...ANYONE!!!

Never realized how rare these are :p I just spent a few days looking as well, no luck. Pretty sure this was an aftermarket/ add on fairing offered by Yamaha, but I have no evidence to support that :p It took about 2 years of stalking Ebay until i came across that one. I found one similar after my build was complete, but I see the link for that pic is now gone... Sorry I could be of more help.

Thanks SpearChucker :D I was labor of love getting that one done, very happy with the results though. Too bad photobucket changed their TOS (that's another thread :p) I wish there was a way I could edit all the posts here, I would do it just so things made more sense to anyone looking for inspiration...
