    Hey guys, 1982 XJ550 maxim.

I need to replace the gasket on my manual cam chain tensioner (replacing the adjuster bolt o-ring as well). I am unable to find anything about this replacement in my service manual. Do I need to set the timing mark to a particular spot when removing the tensioner? When re-attaching, is there a torque spec?

set the crank shaft (left side crank cover ) to the marks for the cam chain adjustment

use general torque specs if fastener is not listed

there is also a spec for the tensioner bolt and stop nut

Doesn't the '82 have an automatic adjuster?
I think he just needs the general spec for the mounting bolts.

no 81,82 XJ550 have manual adjuster
83 can not say from experiance . the clymer manual does not say 83 is different than 81 and 82

my Seca XJ550 parts catalog only shows a manual adjuster for the 3 years
catalog does have pages for the diffrent parts between the 3 years .that has to do with faring, fender, gas tank (color) and side covers and tail section again just color changes

Cool beans. I thought all models were switched over to automatics by '82.
I got to learn today :)

And you can swap in a auto tensioner from an 1982-83 XJ650 or any XJ750 Maxim/Seca with no mods needed.
