Help! I am a novice anot very mechanically inclined. but, I am learning on a 1982 Yamaha Maxim that I am restoring. The firsthing that I want to do is change the exhaust pipes. They sweep upward at the rear of the bike and prevent you from adding saddle bags which I would like to do. When the bags are added they rest directly on the pipes. I need to change or modify in some way the angle of these pipes so that they go straight back and not swoop upward. What would be the easiest modification or is there some kind of conversion kit?

Take a measurement diameter of the muffler inlet. Go to a muffler shop and have an elbow made to correct angle so the mufflers go straight back instead of up in the air.

Just looking at that pic, you'll probably have to take the center stand off if you drop those megaphones down straight. I'd suggest smaller saddlebags.

I had a backet added to mine, lowers the exhaust enough to make it work, before I put the hard bags on, it had normal size soft bags

Yeah, you're riht the center stand has to go. But bought some aftermarket used pipes ove the weekend and I think they will work after a slight modification to the flange at the engine block.

Thanks for the reply - I really appreciate it - I bought some aftermarket used pipes over the week end that I think will do the job with only a slight modification.

    Thanks again, Ike
