I don't have calipers, which is probably why I gave you the wrong measurement in the first place. I will see if I can pick up a set. I thought about just using my dremmel tool to shave a bit off the inside but I think it will take me all night just to do one.

So I bought a caliper tool last night from Harbor Freight, I get home and open the box and the friggen box is empty. I'm going there on my lunch break to return the empty box. They'll probably think I stole it, and I paid for the warranty on it too

Well I got a 5/8" drill bit and hollowed out those struts and got them on the bike. Man what a difference in ride height.

I also started playing with seat mounting ideas. These are pieces of the frame from the stock rear end/seat.

So I took the bike to a buddy's house this weekend to get some seat mounts welded on because I'm really not in the financial situation where I could buy a welder due to some recent developments.

And we decided to go big or go home

We only got one rail welded on, we'll get the other one next weekend. I'm getting pumped on how this is giong to turn out.

Could you please post the dimensions on those handlebars? I like the look and want to find a set close to the same design. Thanks,

So it's been a while since I've done any work, I had heart surgery last week and the recovery has been rough. But today I took the bike over to a friends house to get some fabrication done. Here's what we were able to accomplish

that tank sits high! looks good though dude. Are your legs crammed without forward controls sitting that low?

Congrats on surviving your sugery. I just had over a foot of colon and a large tumor removed a few days ago so I'm also in lay-up mode. Your bike is interesting.

You decided not to go with the stock tank? Everything else looks natural, but I'm not sure about the tank. Maybe you could post some pics with each tank on there. :)

Ha, ha, ha. once you start "altering" your bike you can't stop, can you?
You always get the best ideas when you're f**ked up and can't work on your bike. I like what you've done with your bike.

it's a frisco tank, they designed it to sit high like that with a shallow tunnel. It works because if the tank sat any lower I'd have issues with the petcock. Yeah it's a little cramped at the moment. Forward controls look like they're next on the list. :D

Stock tank is smooth with no emblems, fresh 3 coats of flat black primer and 3 coats of semi flat black paint. Let me know if you want it.

is it bondoed? or smooth steel under the paint, I want to run a raw steel tank so it needs to be the factory smooth tank. If it is how much do you want for the tank?

I'd ship it to you for $150, I think shipping will be close to $50 so that's $100 roughly. Here's a couple pics of the tank

Did some painting this week. Then while rolling it out on the lawn put a gash in the paint on the tank because the handlebars hit the tank when I turn it too sharp. Forward controls should be on this week.

I love everything about this bike EXCEPT the peanut tank. I'm soryy but that's just hideous on that beautiful bike. I would rather tie a beer keg on top for a fuel tank. Other than that i would re align the headlight, cause it's aiming at the moon, and it looks funny. Did I mentioned I like the flat black scheme better than the red? I hope you take this as contructive criticism. :)

No worries, everyone likes something different. The tank will look much better once I get my single rail backbone welded in and I can drop it about 5 inches down on the tube.

They make them specifically for our bike, then you just have to make the linkages from a kit they sell. Peice of cake. They have an Ebay store and that's where I found mine.

Much Much Much better with the black tank.

    Looks awesome now.

...The red tank + stock (ish?) bars made it look goofy, now it's badass.

Ok so everyone raggin on how high my tank was got me thinking. And convinced me that lower would be better. Problem is a lot of cutting was necessary to get it lower. So within a week or so I'll be taking it to my fabricator to get it all braced up so it's safe again. But I do think the tank looks much better in the lower position.

I snapped a pic with my phone and my frame builder replied with a text "do not cut any more"

Alright yo! Got it back tonight, I'm mucho happy with it. I may leave the paint the way it is so it looks kinda ratty. I just wanna ride this beast. The ammo can will get rattle canned black for sure though.

Funny story is that I was pushing my bike up into the truck and the license plate caught the back of my leg and I dislocated my knee while pushing it up. I fell straight to the ground and the bike almost fell on top of me but I was holding it up while laying on my side   Talk about embarrassing!!!

    I'm in pain right now

Looks nice with the lowered front end. Just exactly what did you do to accomplish lowering it 2 1/2inches? (baby steps so I can't understand  ) lol I'd like to drop the front of my project bike a little , but I think 2 1/2 inches on mine would put my pipes about2" off the road 8O

It may sound complicated but it wasn't that bad, I actually learned it from another website. A couple things are different on the XJ (mine at least) You have to pull your forks out by loosening the triple clamps, sliding the forks down out of the top clamp then turn and pull each fork tube up and out of the bottom clamp (after you remove the bottom cartridges). Also I bought my spacer at lowes. Also you don't have to remove the dust covers or snap rings, you just pull the cartridges off from the bottom after removing the allen bolt and dump out the dampening rod and spring.

I got it from this guy http://www.frontstcycle.blogspot.com/

He came highly recomended and did not disappoint. You email him your tire size and he makes a fender that fits it like a glove.

You bought a spacer to fit over your dampening rod correct? I cut the top(long) springs, remember to cut 1/4" less off the spring than the size of your spacer. I beleive if you don't want to cut your springs you can cut it out of that top spacer that is right inside underneath your top cap.
