My attempt at a rigid bobber XJ

Nice job, QH. I've been watching this one closely. Nice colors. I had been debating whether to paint the trees and fork legs black. Now I know what it will look like. Where'd the headlight come from?

 

Headlight came from ebay. I have a battery box made up for it but will end up changing it. This one looks okay, but my dad will get one made up better due to tools I lack. I hope to get some good pics of it up soon.

I have that same forward control kit and it seems to take a lot of presure for my rear brakes to work. Did you nitice that too? I'm thinking of ordering another brake lever and making it longer for more leverage.

 

Yeah my rear brake takes a lot of effort as well. I think I'm going to change a couple things on the stock lever that I cut down for the control to tie into.

I'll be playing with the jetting as I was hoping to get away with stock jetting with the pods and open header, not the case. Seems to be lean idle through mid range, where I'm always at. Up top it pulls strong, but I didn't build this bike to stay up in the R's....

 

I'm going to find another stock brake lever cut it off about 6" from the pivot point and clamp my linkage to it so I can move it in or out to get the pedal feel I want. When I figure it out I'll sent you a PM.

I have pods and a 4into1 exhaust but I mounted it complete (you can see pics at "check out my custom xj650 j maxim" in the mods forums) I did a stage 3 jet kit from dyno jet and had to move the supplied needle clip down one position from what they suggest. I also went out about 2 3/4 turns on the mixture circut (they suggest 2 1/2)

that is one hell of a bike.. the wife and i just bought a 85 xj700x last week for a starter bike. is it possible to do the same thing on mine as you did to yours.. being that mine is lquid cooled vs air cooled

QH. Nice bike man. Im about done with my xj 550 and just want to say thanks for the inspiration dude. Question on your speedometer, did you know you speedo ratio before you bought that from mikes xs, if so how do you know whats your speedometer ratio. I want to get a new speedometer but don't know where to start. Thanks man!
