Hell, replaced is more like it. Fitz brought it to my attention in another thread, that my exhaust may not be stock.

It's starting to rust, its bent, and I just don't like the way it looks. It sounds decent.

How does the stock exhaust sound on these? I'm used to hearing that deep throaty sound from street bikes. Mine sounds more like a sport bike. It kinda screams in the higher rpms.

Anyway is this stock for a 550?

Anyone have pictures of stock exhaust on my bike?

From what I saw, I like the look, and would prefer to just make it stock again.

I just posted this in the other thread; THESE are stock Seca 550 mufflers:

The bikes are very quiet and civilized at low RPM, kind of jet-like. Once they get into the meat of the powerband (over 6K) they develop a nice throaty howl.

My '81 (not the bike in the pic, my other one) came with a Kerker 4-1 on it with an open megaphone. It had never been rejetted for it so it ran like crap and was louder than an F1 car. Going back to a complete stock exhaust was the biggest challenge I faced in the resurrection but it really makes a difference in how the bikes run. This one's only had the mufflers and a couple of headpipes replaced.

If you've still got the collector box and original headpipes, then you've got options too; 550 Maxim mufflers, or there are a number of slip-ons available that look quite a lot like what's on the 650 Seca. Tracking down a set of 550 Seca mufflers is a bit of a challenge, like I said; I did it twice. 'Twarnt easy.

I think its SuperCrapp. Actually, from the angle it's tough to tell, but I almost think that it IS original stuff but looks like a previous owner had removed the ends of the mufflers

Looks to me like stock silencers with the ends chopped of and a baffle/end placed further in side the silencer. But I don’t know with out seeing them from the side.

Yep, Rudy those are stock muffies that some Philistine hacked the back half of the cans off of. Urk.

I'll get you some links to various possibilities. It looks like the collector box is still there.

Thanks again fitz, I'm pretty sure everything stock is there except for the ends that were hacked off.

I JUST found your topic in the sell/trade forum about the stock 550 seca exhaust on eBay. About a week too late.
