Thanks for the quality pic fiveofakind, I figured out just how backwards my stuff was while rereading through some threads here and I've got my choke setup back to the way it should be now. Once I had all that solved and put the carbs back on I discovered that I had not set my floats proper so off the carbs came again. Now I'm in the process of building one of those PVC doohickeys and waiting for a float gauge to show up in the mail so I can properly wet set the floats.

Serves me right for thinking I could just measure it I guess. Thanks again for the response Five.

Forget the PVC doohickey......use two ( #1 & #4 ) of your carb to manifold boots & secure to 2 x 6.....mount carbs .......secure board to vise...and then level.....Set floats......

PVC is a waste of time & money......

Be careful when taking off carb to manifold boots.......do not snap off the bolts........OUCH.....if that happens then you are in trouble thou....

This.. is fantastic, it's so simple and cheap and I never even thought about it. Awesome.

Yes I agree and I did fix them, got them at the same time as my choke arm that was upside down on the connecting rod.

Good to hear you corrected your enrichment forks & choke cable....

Be very careful when taking off carb-manifold boot bolts........be easy on them...do not snap any of them......

you might need to order gaskets after taking off boots if you bike requires the gaskets.....

my '82 xj750j Maxim does not require them

carb boots were mounted to the 2 x 6 with drywall screws......

Instead of tempting fate and removing the intake boots, you could go to the Home depot or wherever you shop, and pick up a couple of Fernco connectors.
These were mentioned from Rod 1 in another thread.
Mount a piece of ABS plastic pipe with an end on it screwed to the 2x6, Fernco, then carbs.
You can cut down the connectors to whatever width you want, just leave room for the clamps.

I am on a final summer holiday away.
When I get back in a couple of weeks, I'll rig it up and post a pic.
