Hey guys, bought a maxim x 700, water-cooled, temporary "fixed" the pods the guy had on it by putting a peice of cloth between the pods and the carb. Runs pretty well after I adjusted the mixture screw according to the plugs... Anyways I hate having such a crappy fix and was wondering if anyone had an intact airbox. A full kit with all the boots included would be nice, but I can also source them of not. Thanks

I have a box and boots from an airhead. They are the same, but apparently have some holes in different places (???)

Airhead 700 and X airboxes are ALMOST the same. The X holes are approx .5cm wider diameter. The X holes are about 5.5cm diameter, the airheads are only 5cm diameter. The airhead airbox also has two centering boot-tab center-nubs above each hole, too.

For future reference, here's some photos that show what @hogfiddles is talking about.

This is just showing the boot side of an XJ700N/XJ700S (airhead) airbox:
    700n airbox.jpg

This close up of one of the boot locations shows the 5cm diameter that @hogfiddles mentioned, as well as the two locating nubs (circled) on the top.

This photo of one of the boots shows the corresponding nub on the boot - so when properly installed, the boot nub should be between the two nubs on the airbox.

Will the 700-X boots fit (albeit very tightly) into the airhead airbox holes? Or do the holes need to be somehow opened up? 1/2-cm is close to 1/4" diameter differences.......

I have not actually tried fitting C bouts into an airhead airbox. I’ll try it though and see

Did you ever end up trying the boots from a maxim x on an airhead box hogfiddles?
