Any thoughts about postponing the ride. Bills memorial service is this Saturday at 2pm, I would like to attend. I think Bill's family needs our support right now.

Yes I will definetly be at bill's memorial. There is no way i will ride now. BUT I was wondering if anyone wants to meet a little earlier to sign a condolence card for the family. It doesn't have to be too early, maybe even an hour before the memorial?

SO who plans on attending the memorial?

I will be attending the memorial. I think the ride can be discussed at a later time when we can reset and rethink ...maybe make it into a memorial ride. Right now it's postponed...at least for me.

^^ yeah I agree, forget the ride for now. the memorial ride sounds more right on to what we should do anyhow. I'm gonna show up about half hour earlier, hopefully ride there if the weather permits. So, we won't even meet earlier then, just at the church, and pay our respects. Who wants to pick up the card? I'm for it if you guys don't mind. Unless you guys already have one in mind. Let me know.

I will purchase the card....I'll be there rather early also. It's a small church so may be standing room only.

Hey folks, Dave (Bills brother and the one he sold his 81 850 to) I spoke to Roger and requested that this ride be rescheduled and as many of the original participants as possible attend. Please, all who have been touched by Bill who would like to ride with us please do. I will need some notice since I will be traveling from Florida. Thanks again for your support and being such a vital part of Bill's life.

    Dave

    Dave,
I did not get the chance to meet you after the memorial last saturday. I'm glad you shared about your brother. Yes indeed he touched a lot of lives. it was great to hear that from other who spoke as well. I hope to meet you when we get this ride going again. I'm open to a new riding date. Maybe Labor day weekend? Just a thought.

I could probably do Labor Day...we'll need to be certain the Aviation Museum and the Harley Museum/Restaurant will be open. I will check with them tomorrow and post here.

The weekend of 9/19 would also be good.

Thanks for the quick response. I'll check the schedule and give as many open dates as possible. To those who are on the edge of riding or not. I don't want this to be a heavy heart event but a fun celebration of Bill's and our passion for riding. He wouldn't have it anyother way but that of enjoying the beauty of the ride and the fellowship.
    Thanks,

Okay, with respect to labor day,

The Aviation Museum is open on Monday 9/7 but the Harley Museum/Restaurant is not.

However, both are open Saturday 9/5.

I'll check with my sweety about arrangments for my "little man" regarding 9/5 and if all is clear I'll be there. It is pretty big weekend of fun and games for the kids and I think she is scheduled to work, so I'll update you as soon as I know something.

And thanks guys for pulling this back together.

hey folks, my wife is the bomb!!! Momma says 9/5 is fine. I'll cruise into town friday, ride saturday and blow out sunday after church. I don't know my way around too well so if I can arrange to meet someone from raleigh close to Bills that would be great.

    Thanks,

    All right,

I've quoted Bill's original plan below. Except for the dates I would recommend we stick to what he had planned.

So we are set for the Saturday 9/5 unless we have a rainout (look here for updates on weather as we get closer). Dave, I can meet you at or near Bill's house. It's a good 30 minutes from my house to the IHOP so I would suggest meeting you at 0645 to allow plenty of time.

I only have a sketchy head count so far of (anyone bringing guest?),

There were quite a few more in the original ride. This will not be a downer ride. This is meant to be a celebratin of Bill's life by participating in something he loved. Let's Ride!

I think the week of the ride I'll use Bill's original thought of getting you to PM me so we can exchange cell numbers, confirm participation and be certain we don't leave anyone.

I'll be there, 1 with me. I am looking foward to finishing what Bill had planned for us all to do. I know He will be smiling down on us.

Roger and Dave-I think it would be easier for me to meet ya'll at Bills house since I have been there a few times, if it is ok with you guys. My stepdad has never been to his house but he will be tagging along with me. I hope it is a beutiful day.

Here's the head count so far for the Aviation Museum Ride.

    Artie(RT) + 1
    Dave
    mlew + 4
    xulf13 +1
    Jared D +1
    CNCguy

That totals to 13. The long range forecast for Friday says cloudy and warm...not too bad. I will keep my eye on it.

Artie(RT)+1, Dave, Jared+1 to meet at 0645 at Bills or close by. Dave, do think Sandra will mind if we meet at Bill's? Maybe you should check first? Please advise.

Otherwise the rally point is 0730 at the IHOP for breakfast and plan to leave at ~0830.

knowing Sandra she would say yes. However, I think really it would be difficult. so perhaps we can meet at the church (close and we all know the location)

That's a good call. I rather ride from the church to the Ihop with you guys. Some, might rather meet at the IHOP due to their location. But for me, the church is only 20 miles south from my house. I plan on bringing a camera if that ok with you guys. I think from there we can go down on creedmoor road all the way to 540 onto apex right to the IHOP.

This group, this forum and Bill's riding companions are the closest I will get to riding with my brother, thanks for everything. To ALL who are participating in this ride, THANK YOU... Unfortunately the economy has kicked us in the can, again, with another reduction in hours leaving us in a really poopy position. Bottom line... I can't afford to make this run. I so wanted to ride with you folks, especially since this was Bill's last one he organized. I may not be there, but I will be riding in memory of Bill. I never got a chance to ride with Bill. We both had bikes when the other didn't. However, we did start talking about taking some rides and I had a list of rides here in Florida I wanted us to complete and we discussed some in NC. I want you to know that I will be on the road at 7:30 to have pancake breakfast with my son & the Christian Motorcycle Assoc. and then dropping the litte man off and hitting the road to check some of the rides off the list and burn a couple of tanks of gas. Please take pics as I will do the same. I'd like to propose making this an annual event. I hope to see you when I deliver the last leg of the relay and we can share the road, riding together.

God Bless and enjoy the ride,

Dave, sorry you couldn't make it. I personally have experienced being pinched financially by the economy (i'm seeing better times now, yeah already)

I'm sure others will elaborate more than I, but I feel it was a great ride.

We met as planned every step ( wheel spin) of the way. There were 14 bikes total from Apex to Asheboro. We ate, honored Bill with a moment of silence, prayed and rode away. The weather was perfect. We met with yamasaurus at the museum. I'm attaching some random photos from today.

Thanks so much.... I REALLY wanted to be there. It was difficult not being able to be a part of this. However, I did leave out here for a panckake breakfast with CMA and my son. After dropping him off I ran out to Ozelo a beautifal 60 mile round trip to the gulf thru twisties surrounded by water in old fl country. I sat and watched the fisherman come in and others fishing from the banks (another passion on the list that Bill and i shared) I'll post pics later. From there I rolled 70 miles of long sweeping turns and sstraights out to the beach (it was a short stay) out of no where rain was looming and i headed for shelter. Got the gear on & it let loose. found a church (an episcipal church, we grew up in one) to sit at and kicked back to wait it out with a good cigar. It was nice texting my niece & nephew when the sherrif pulled up and the fun began... Do you (asked this first?) have a job, where do you live, what type of bike, year, ID and the clincher.. why are you here (it was raining buckets and lightening was striking everywhere). I looked at him and said is that a serious question? and finally a chuckle. apparntly the pipes set the alarm off (was revving the engine when I pulled up) So all was in order and I sat the rain out relaxing, remembering my brother, our lives growing up, the man he had become, saddened by the times we will not share and finnally...laughing how Bill was getting his diggs in on little brother with a biker baptism (Bill was a devote Baptist) and a sherrif shakedown (Bill was instrumental in getting my back on the the right path in life.) So the whole day was just perfect. Thank again XJers you folks are wasome

I found this road off of US1 (Capital Blvd.) shortly after Bill Passed away. I rode thru it and at the other end as I turned around I saw this sign. Finally I got the chance today to take a photo of it.

Lets start planning it... Can you guys start chatting it up with last years crew?

Is there any worth while charities we can tie this with to help some folks?? Maybe a food drive through Bill's church to help the community?

I've been doing plenty of riding, but been to busy to post online lately. been working on a 1973 TX650, I'll probably bring that out for the next ride.

    Xulf13,

You've not been the only stranger...I wish I could say I've been doing a lot of riding...trying to solve an issue with my bike where the idle rises gradually from 1100 with the bike warm to 1500 after about 45 minutes of riding. Got some ideas from the forum...but need to find a weekend where I don't have to work to try them out.

I should be able to make it, and probably bring some friends from down Charlotte way. Let's stay in touch
Xulf13, let me know if you run into any problems on that 73 650. I have a little experience with all the old ones. Maybe I can help.

    Roger,
I hope you get your problem solved with your bike. Mine does the same thing, but not as bad or as high of idle. I know that for my bike in the summer I have to lower the rpms a bit by turning the idle knob inbetween the carbs when it's summer and then turn it up a bit during winter. but mine only goes up from 950 Rpm's to 1150 maybe 1200. I need to read your post, maybe I can also try what they are recomending for you. I have been very busy with work, a 8 month old baby and family. Thank God i still have time to ride :)

Yamasaurus. Thanks for the offer. I'm sure something will come up on the build. here is a link to my build, it's not on this site because it's a caferacer (yes another).

So how is the roll call coming along? IS anyone going to make this ride or is still interested? August 7th is right around the corner.
