    Hello to all.
I've had motorbikes all my life from racing to motocross, which I still have. A neighbour of mine was kind enough to give me a very good sample of the xj650 maxim with anti dive forks and twin disc breaks. This bike came from the states in 93, its a 82 version. he had it over 20 years and kept it in a purpose built extension so its in an excellent condition, for the year.
I have completely stripped down the CD carbs because it sat for so long and the fuel had become varnish. I thought it would have done the trick for smooth running. However time has taken it toll and a complete new kit should be fitted to bring it up to how it should be. I ran it today and it wouldn't idle below 2000 RPM so its either a carb problem of inlet manifold air leak some where.
What company is best to order complete carb kits with the inlet manifold rubbers? Also is it worth getting them from America.
Any good advice would be appreciated.

    Regards

    Bullvine

Click on the link at the top right - XJ4ever.com. He is member Chacal. I don't know if he ships internationally, but he is by far the BEST source for XJ parts. He sometimes is a bit more, but he is fast shipping, and the part is always correct - these bikes have so many versions that very few other than Chacal can know what is correct.

Start a conversation with Chacal (Len). if the doesn't ship overseas, he may know a reliable source on your side of the pond.

    Have fun!

Hey @Bullvine - will you let us know how you get on in terms of delivery. I'd be interested to hear!
Have you a pic you could share? Mine is an 83 650 Maxim that looks like it's half way through a bobber project. It has twin discs too so would be interested to see if it looks similar

What are the first three characters of the VIN?

I ask because the 650 did not come with anti-dive forks.

You bike has a relay that turns on the headlight when it starts and the wiring also runs through start button. Sticking switch or the relay may be faulty.
Do you have a manual for the bike?

Would the light assembly be bad? What if I just turned the bike on and didn't even put it in gear it wouldn't even turn on as well.

High beam or low beam ? High beam indicator on dash coming on? Pull the headlight and check for power at plug with test light.

No headlight at all is working not high or low. When I start the bike I have no light at all only one that comes on is the light by the license plate.
