Hello all. I'm new to XJ's, but not to bikes. I just found a nearly mint 82 XJ1100. Purrs like a kitten, looks fantastic, and is a joy to ride.

Since I'm new to XJ's, if anyone has any advice, tips, tricks, or things to look out for, I'm all ears. I'd love any advice anyone can offer.

I will be spending a lot of time on this site looking at things so I can get to know my XJ a little better.

    Thanks in advance!

    Dave

By the way, here's the bike....

Welcome. Boy, that is a good looking bike 8O :D. Out of curiosity, how much did you pay for your ride and what is the mileage on it? I'm also looking add 1100 to my XJ family . Feel free to post some pics in your Photo Gallery. So, far from what I've seen the fuse box can be a pain.

Thanks guys. I found the bike not too far from home with the original owner. He really babied this thing. Said he only took it out on dry, sunny days. Never really rode it hard, just a cruiser run now and then. Had 27K on the clock.

Paid $700 for the bike, windshield, and helmet. Is that a decent price?

    A few more pics.....

It was. I contacted the seller outside of ebay, made an offer, and he accepted. Ebay wouldn't let him end the auction early, so he told me to make a ridiculous offer that no one would beat and we could work it out later.

It worked. Not the best way to deal with it, but I fell in love with the bike immediately. Oddly, the auction only made it to $1500. Isn't that high for a bike this clean?

The only thing missing on the bike is the center stand. Will a center stand from a 650 or 750 work on this bike? If not, does anyone know where I can find a decent one?

    Thanks again folks!

This is a forum for xs and xj's
They might be able to help on parts.

Get yourself the new XJCD's for starters. The next investment should be the shop manual and the Haynes manual. With all of that in hand, there is nothing on the machine you won't be able to handle. Your pictures made my wife take a second look. I've got to get my babies restored. Beautiful machine. $700 for that? Well done, you scored a reasonable deal. Welcome to the forum and please don't be a stranger, throw any questions you might have at us, we love the challenge.

    Thanks! I appreciate the welcome!

Question: Will a center stand from a XS1100 work on my XJ1100?

    Thanks again!

Dang, $700 bux is an awesome price for that ride 8O. I'd pay more so let me know if you are selling and I'd make the trip . I'm not sure if the center stand will fit as Yamaha numbers are different:

    '82 XJ1100 part#: 3H3-27111-01-00
    '82 XJ750J part#: 15R-27111-00-R4
    '80 XS1100G part# 2H7-27111-00-00

There is a bike bone yard in Jordan MN. Give them a shout. Here is their site: http://www.sportwheel.com

You definately got an awesome deal.I saw that bike on ebay too.if you are looking for a center stand and cant find one for an xj1100, try hunting one down from an xs or an fj1100.I belive those will work.Personally I would get a bike dolly.wouldnt hurt to check it out.And oh yeah,...welcome!

Thanks for all the compliments guys. Guess I scored a good deal. That makes me feel good. I sure would have hated hearing "You paid $700?!? Man did you get ripped off!!!"

The guys on XS11.com seem to think that the XS center would work, but not well. They advised me to keep my eye on ebay for a good deal on one that's made for an XJ.
