no fire

:x :x My 1983 maxim 750 is giving me Hell!! It sat for 2 years in my garage untouched. I cleaned carbs and got it to fire but it took starting fluid. Once it was warm it ran great. I was even able to ride it. If I turned the bike off it would start right back up fine untill it came to a cold start. I'd go out the next day and get a quick fire when I would put the choke on but after that nothing. changed plugs, oil carbs, and no luck. when I try to start it cold, I also seem to smell gas rich when I get the quick fire on a cold start. PLease Help!!

 

Sounds like the pilot fuel jets are clogged. Clean them better. Did you take the carbs off the bike to clean them?

 

I took off the carbs and when I opened the bowls up I pulled both jets from each carb. the larger jet was fine but I cleaned anyway on all carbs but the smaller jet on all the carbs were packed solid. I used a needle and carb cleaner and I thought I cleaned them well. anything else??
