F model wouldn't indicate a Seca, though, would it?

In any event, it's irrelevant... I reread the email "Nigel" sent, and his other condition for shipping overseas is that the buyer use Paypal, which I flat-out refuse to do.

Anybody wanna buy an oil cooler for an XJ900/900F? Complete with adapter plate? Buy It Now price is only 20 pounds...

900F sounds like a Honda cooler.

I've ridden a couple of those old Hondas. Stable on the road, great brakes too. Heavy as!

As long as the add said Yamaha, there is a 900F.

Same cooler as on the XJ900RK ... Nice one. Got that cooler, lines and adapter bolted-on my 750 Max. Looks like it came that way.

Okay. Bringing this thread back to life again.

I did manage to find an adapter plate; the guy was selling it and ONE oil hose from an FJ600; after checking with the Yamaha parts site and finding that it was the same adapter plate used on the 82 650LJ, I bid and won.

Next question would be which radiator/lines are compatible with this adapter plate on a 750 Maxim (besides Rick's 900RK). The one oil line I have obviously matches with the FJ radiator, but not the Seca. I saw one setup for an FJ1100 on ebay, but that one doesn't even look like it uses an adapter plate.

You need to use the oil lines for an XJ650 Turbo, the others will have the wrong configurations and/or fittings......

If you are resourceful, you can fab new lines but the cost for fittings can be a down side. Keep scouting Flea-Bay, they will turn up someday.

    Schmuckaholic:

For the XJ750, you can try to find an oil cooler from an XJ650 Turbo here in the states. I am pretty darn sure that the 700 and 800 are much bigger diameter and will not fit on the 750. The bolt that holds the cooler to the block is interchangeable though.

I am able to get ahold of 3-4 of the plates for the 700-800, the much wider ones, but not sure about the radiator part. I think I would pay around $30 for them. I will check to see if they have anything the next time I go there.

Again: I have the plate and its mounting bolt. I need hoses and the radiator.

Bonus: someone's selling a pair of apparently unused aftermarket coolers, complete with adapter plates, one for a 550 and the other for the 650/750:

    650 Maxim/750 Seca

    550

    Bid early and bid often!

Hey Schmuckster, those aftermarket coolers have a bit of clearance problems fitting some of these bikes. The radiator is MUCH wider than the stock one off of the 650 Turbo models.

I have a good used radiator and hoses set available, write me if interested..... I would strongly suggest replacing the cooler and adapter plate hose o-rings.

Also, now would be the perfect time to add the world famous (or is that Infamous?) Spin-On Oil Filter Conversion Kit that I offer, as it allows you to use a mini-can type oil filter and get rid of that atrocious factory paper element filter, housing, and bypass bolt system. It's completely bolt on with the stock cooler adapter plate that you have, and gives you the ultimate in oil filtration and protection for your engine.

Well, somebody DID bid early and often on those aftermarket coolers... the one for the 650/750 ended up at $122.50. 8O (They must have wanted it *badly*.) For the 550, only $39.

So I noticed. I didn't figure that would be much of an issue, but as I didn't bid, the question is academic.

There is an old thread in the forums about this issue, I think if you search "oil cooler" it will turn up. I'd say at least a year old. Some good pictures, although if you start holding things up onto your bike/frame, you'll quickly see what is necessary!

I have the lower bracket out, I'll shoot some photos. The upper bracket is simply a ring welded to the gusset to hold a grommet.

I posted the photos in my gallery, let me know if you want more or send me an email address and I'll shoot them to you in the file type of your choice.

Okay, so the lower bracket is pretty much just for keeping the hoses from flopping around, is that it?

As for the upper, it sounds like that's the more important of the two. I'll see if I can dig up that thread and see what the upper looks like.
