Hello I have a xj 1100 and I have been getting a low oil light warning.
The problem started after changing the oil a few months ago.
The first time I did not change the filter with the oil. Anyway I got it running and took it for a ride and the light came on this is normal for the bike so I added some oil and the light went out. The next next time I took her for a long ride and on the way home the light came on and off several times then stayed on.
I think the sending unit is going bad as there is plenty of oil maybe too much now that I have added some. The bike reads full and stays at the same level even when running with a bit of a drop in level when revving it up. I thought that the level did not read with the bike running?
Could the pump be bad. The engine sounds okay with no ticking. Should I trust it? For a ride today or wait and fix it in the spring?

Update the bike now trips the light when cornering and going up and down hills but goes out when level? Mostly

The level sensor in your xj11 is a float switch. They do get sludge in them over the years and give false warnings. The fix is to remove the switch and clean it out with spray solvent. Sometimes the plastic float will crack and not work then it will need to be replaced.
The switch can be removed and cleaned easily, its in the oil pan on the left side of the engine. Two bolts to remove and gently wiggle it out. They can be a pain to get out sometimes , just be paitent. A little help with two screwdrivers can help walk it out.

Put the bike on centerstand, check the window - should be "full" with a bubble at the top. (non-running, level, drained 5 minutes)

Then you can ignore the warning
