The carb setup works real well now that all the bugs have been worked out.
Yes my riding days are over, I spend probably 50% of my time laying on my back and sitting is starting to get uncomfortable.
It took me 4 months to get the bike painted and back together. That only would've been a week when I was well. Will be listing the bike for sale soon. Pity, I won't get much for it after all the time and money that went into it. But it was fun. The fork seals have started to leak and the brake lines are old.
The paint has a bright metallic color in the sunlight, but looks gold in the shade and a little greenish tint. It's rattle can Rustoleum BBQ Grill enamel with clear coat engine enamel on the tank so gas won't eat through.

Man. I am sorry to hear that. I guess you don't sleep much either. It's 3:11 am here and as usual, I'm up looking at bike stuff unable to get anywhere near comfortable enough to sleep. I can't imagine not riding. I mean damn. I hope you ate taking it ok and can get through it. I will keep looking for your posts and wish ya the best of luck.

Yeah the pain gets bad and keeps me up late sometimes. A hot bath helps, wish I had a jacuzzi. Hope you get well soon.

How do you like those right side up clubmans?

I like them, but I wish I had a pair of Vintage Short Stack. Just didn't want to go through changing the brake lines at the time and the price for the bars had something to do with it too.

The only thing I had to change with the clubmans turned up was the clutch cable. Got one for a Virago that was about 2 inches longer.

Hi orange n Black. I have not posted for a while but I still look in to see what others are doing in the XJ world. I am very sorry to hear about your back problems. Was this the result of the accident that you had on your XJ or is it just wear and tear on the spine bones. Not being able to ride must be a total bummer. Have you thought about building a trike using an XJ as the donor bike. Something like this and some lateral thinking may get you back on the road again. Any way I hope that things get better for you as I always enjoyed reading your posts and the ups and downs of fitting a dual carb setup onto a 4 cylinder motorcycle. Get well soon.

Thanks guys, the back problems are from degenerative disk disease and a life of hard physical labor. The last thing I want to do is get rid of this bike, I can't work on it anymore and my body can't take any jarring. Time to let it go and let someone else enjoy it.
I may be a cager from now on, but I'll be a 2 wheeler in spirit.

Damn O&B, sucks to hear about your back and the end of your riding days, thats never easy to accept.

I too really enjoyed seeing all the trials and everything that went into the carb mod, a job well done.

Hope you feel well soon, I'll be sure to crack the throttle for ya once spring rolls around

REAL SORRY about the problems with your back. I can relate though (hurtin' can get REAL old!). Had 2 surgeries more than 30yrs. ago. Almost waited too long, right foot was turnin' in and kinda draggin'. Thankfully I got better, I'm just careful (who am I kiddin'? not careful enough, DUMBASS that I am)...

    skillet
btw Goes without sayin', sure hope things get better!!!

Thanks guys. The bike didn't sell yet. The decal pinstripes looked a little cheesy so I took them off along with some paint. So over the last month(when I'm not confined to bed) I've been re-painting it red metal flake.I'll post some new pics as soon as I'm able, takes a while to get anything done. :?

Damn O-n-B sorry to hear of your troubles, I know your problem is different to my friend's (he fractured multiple vertabrae & ruptured discs falling through a moss-covered corrugated rooflight) but perhaps his solution would offer you some pain relief.

He has a medical "corset" that he wears, I'll try get more details if you like but think it has carbon fibre segments inside the material, basically it supports his back & although it's hardly comfortable and restricts his movement a lot it at least allows him to get out of bed and walk, sit & drive his truck.

Just read through the thread & I like the novel solution to knackered CV carbs, surprised we don't see more like this...

Thanks, I got one of those full torso corset braces. It helps support you, but doesn't help the pain and it can be awfully hot. Damn thing cost 1,050 dollars.
I have one of those inversion tables, helps relieve the pain for about an hour. High barometric pressure systems are my friends, I can feel a low/cold front 350 miles away. Today was 75 degrees and partly sunny, got the bike clean and ready for gas. Took some pics but my software won't let me re-size. Will post pics as soon as I figure that out. :?
The off days have allowed me to get more acquainted with my guitars so all is not lost.

Wow that's ridiculous having to buy stuff like that :( I thought Mr long-legged Mac Daddy (Barack) was supposed to be giving you guys a national health kinda thing a couple of years back, guess he decided to pocket the cash instead?

At least you have other hobbies too & don't have our UK weather I guess...

Bikes looking good anyway, always think a nice metallic/flake red suits about any machine best ;) although my browser won't show the flake since it makes the pics grainy when zoomed in :?

The Obamacare thing starts next year. Time will tell if it's better or not. If the government gets their hands on something, it usually becomes screwed up beyond all recognition.
Will try more pics later. Thanks biggyfaction for the compliments.
